So, how much of the stuff at the beginning of a book do you usually read? I tend to read most of it, unless it is hideously boring.

Do you read introductions, prologues, etc?

I tend to read acknowledgements in addition to all the others. Or at least skim them. It's fun to see if there are people I know in there.

Partially depends on how long they are and what mood I'm in.
I almost always read prologues, and perhaps the author's note.

Most of the time I read all of it... unless I'm re-reading the book.

If the author is just sitting there naming off a bunch of people who helped him, I skim it; if it's an author doing something special for each person, especially if it's amusing, I'll read it.
When it comes to the RAT...I read everything. Meaning indexes and such, down to the publishing house.Posted 1 year ago # -
Not before reading the book... The first time I skip the introduction, especially. I don't like reading the book through someone else's eyes, and more than a few times they've given away spoilers (thanks a lot, publishers of Dickens!). I go back and read all of it if I liked the book enough.
