I absolutely love this series. Just finished The Story of the Amulet and I really thought it was a nice ending for the series. What's your experience with these?

My experience with this series is that my library only has the first one. *weeps* Someday I'll get around to ordering the rest by ILL. Five Children and It was good though, anything Nesbit is (The Treasure Seekers especially--love those books). I think they made a movie of FCaI too...

I've read The Five Children and It and The Phoenix and the Carpet out of this series. Would The Story of the Amulet be the next one in this series?

Yes. The Story of the Amulet the last book in the series.

I'll have to read it. I liked the first two.
I also liked The Enchanted Castle, but that's a different book by the same author.

Edith Nesbit seems to be continually dragging temples and gods and stuff into her stories.

It's just mythology...I don't know, I never thought of it as anything different than the centaurs and fauns and Bacchus in Narnia.
I do like her real-life books better than her fantasy stories though.

I think I've read all of those. Though, I need to read them again, most deffinitely. E. Nesbit's got good stuff.

I hated the Story of the Treasure Seekers and it's sequel, it was almost prejudiced against females as being wimpy, skimpy, and altogether inferior! Railway Children stinks, but sofar in my other readings by her, FC&It has been the best one. I just recently found out that it's actually a trilogy, like y'all have been saying (I've only discovered this discussion today), so I need to check into it.

Although, Story of the Treasure Seekers is decidedly written from the perspective of a boy (sorry to those who hadn't figured it out yet), so that sort of helps with the prejudice. The funny thing is, Nesbit was a feminist!

Yeah, what Jordan said.
Part of the reason it's funny is because Oswald is so outlandishly biased in his opinions. Just because he says something doesn't mean that it's true--he has an entire chapter dedicated to "The Nobleness of Oswald," for cryin' out loud. Dora is a little milksoppish, but even Oswald has to admit that Alice is decent. Why did you hate The Railway Children?

Right, see, it's almost a satire of prejudice. You just have to have the right kind of sense of humor to appreciate it.

For some reason, I didn't like the Railway Children either. It just wasn't all that interesting to me.

Bleck, jordan!

"Bleck?" Is there a reason behind this elabourate exclamation of horror?
