Chester Cricket comes from Connecticut to New York by accident in a picnic basket. A boy named Mario finds him, and, though Mama is scornful, gets to keep him in an emptied matchbox in their newspaper stand. Chester meets Tucker the mouse and Harry the cat, both experienced foragers, and they become friends. But when the newspaper stand is accidentally set on fire during a dinner party of the three, and when Chester dreams about leaves and wakes up chewing a two dollar bill, will Mario be able to keep Chester?
A pretty good book! This is probably one of my favorite books of the Chester Cricket series. I like the part when Chester meets Harry. With humor and adventure, this is the first of the Chester Cricket series.
