This is a great book! (Thus five stars.) You may have to go through Inter-library Loans to get it, but you may find it worth the effort! Please read this book! I definitely recommend it!

This book is adorable. It’s the story of a dog who is adopted by the Ticket Master of a circus. Due to the dog’s being able to stand its front legs and balance, the Ticket Master puts him in the circus. Nearly every day the Ticket Master gives Little-or-Nothing a bone, which he promptly hides under the Ticket Master’s wagon. But the next morning, the bone is gone!

This phenomenon has a very simple explanation, but it takes Little-or-Nothing awhile to catch on. It’s very cute, and I enjoyed it as a quick “Sit-right-down-by-the-bookshelf-and-read-it-now” book. It’s out of print, but I hope you will be able to find it without much trouble!

Cinnabar is a fox who dearly enjoys to participate in fox hunts. So much so, that he is known as the One O’Clock Fox who always shows up at One O’Clock and will run until night-fall. The historic chase that takes place in this book is between Cinnabar (affectionately called “Cinny”) and a party of men including George Washington.

This book is great! It’s so amusing to read about Cinny and his wife, Vicky, and their four children, Rascal, Pascal, Merry, and Mischief. The copy I read had great illustrations in it, but I don’t know what you’ll be able to find, as this book is out of print. It’s perfect for a chuckle or two.

All are striving to reach a final goal: to have Black Gold win the Kentucky Derby.

The other plot in this book is about Jaydee Mooney, a young boy who knows horses. Jaydee has been training to be a jockey, and when he sees Black Gold race, he decides that he wants to ride Black Gold in the Kentucky Derby. This is a good book. I will warn you, however, that the ending is sad, and you feel bad for Mr. Webb, but this book is not to be missed.

This is a special story of how the islands were destroyed, and how love and hope helped to rebuild courage. The key downside with this book is that a large portion of the plot is in deciding what to name Misty’s foal. Well, judging from the title, that’s decidedly non-suspenseful.
You might also want to take a look at Misty of Chincoteague, the first Misty book.

A pretty good book. A couple bad words, though. This probably isn’t one of my favorite Marguerite Henry’s, but it’s still pretty good. Unfortunately, this book is out of print and is only available used from Amazon.

This is a well-written story, with some very interesting parts, but I personally do not rate this book very high on my top ten (of course, my top ten are constantly changing, and it’s very difficult to keep the top ten from becoming the top one-hundred). The auction at Chincoteague is very exciting, and Marguerite Henry’s love of horses shines through the whole book.

This book is a very good read. Marguerite Henry takes history (Theodore Roosevelt is in it, for example) and adds fiction, making it very enjoyable story. There’s even a gunfight at the end!

Life is difficult for him, and he struggles to keep his wish in sight. One day, he is chosen to care for a half-arabian mare that has been injured and he believes that this is the horse with which he can fulfill his dream.

I wasn’t expecting much, but this has to be one of the best Marguerite Henry’s that I’ve read. The plot is very interesting and the characters are well developed. I really enjoyed it. As a note, this was originally published under the title of Gaudenzia, Pride of the Palio. After I finished reading Wildest Horse Race, I worked my way through Inter-Library Loans to find Gaudenzia. Imagine my surprise on opening it and experiencing a major déjá vu!
