Pip
MemberI used to read everything he wrote! What do y’all think about his works?
I loved the Prydain Chronicles…except the ending of the High King and the Black Cauldron, which stank to high skies!

My siblings and I have a thing where we pick out characters from movies and books to ‘be’. I.E., I ‘am’ Pippin off LotR, my youngest sibling is Galadriel, and my second-youngest sibling is Arwen. So in the PC, I ‘was’ Fflewddur! He’s so pleasant.

MemberWhat didn’t you like about the endings? What is the ending of the Black Cauldron, anyway? I can’t remember.

MemberI like his books. They’re nice when I want something easy and light-hearted, but with a good story. Once you’ve read a few, they get pretty predictable, but I enjoy them anyway.

MemberMe again.
Speaking of predictable, I am reading The First Two Lives of Lukas-Kasha to my sibs. We’re at the part where Lukas gets captured by Abadani soldiers. If you’ve read it, you’ll understand what I’m talking about. Well, I started dying laughing, because we were discussing the girl, and my sister says, “I bet she’s like the daughter of that leader dude, or maybe there is no dude at all, and she is the leader.” It was so funny because she guessed exactly right!(Now I can just hope she doesn’t read this thread. Adalin is my sis, by the way.)

MemberLloyd Alexander can write such great “first-person” stuff. The Vesper Holly books are my favorite, followed by the Prydain Chronicles. I also like The Iron Ring. Town Cats and Other Tales is a good one.

MemberI meant that I didn’t like the end of the last book in the PC; unsatisfying! I don’t remember the end of the BC, just that it stunk!
Aw, The Town Cats were cute! I loiked thet burk, oi did. (Molespeech)
I don’t remember anything of what I read outta the Vesper Holly series, only the description of her green eyes. It was years ago, tho’…
*snickers* Anyone else like Fflewddur? (The spellings of these are nutty!)
July 6, 2008 at 11:58 am #42914Jordan
MemberOh, I actually liked the ending of BC. It almost made me cry!
Yeah, the names do have some amount of nuttiness to them. I don’t notice as much because I like the old Welsh names and words, so I know some of their grammar and spelling rules.

MemberI’m going to go look at the ending of Black Cauldron so I know what you all are talking about.

EDIT: The part with Ellidyr and the cauldron?

MemberFflweddur cracks me up! (Depsite that fact that I can’t spell his name. Or is that right? I don’t know. I copied Pip’s spelling.
)What’s the giant’s name? Gleww or something? He’s in. . . . The Castle of Llyr, I believe. He’s rather. . . weird? Creepy? Slimy comes to mind.

MemberI think it’s Fflewddur.
July 10, 2008 at 2:59 am #42918Pip
MemberSlimy, lol! That rocks. Some o’ his characters make me so mad…just annoying little quirks that he gives them. (Fflewddur’s an exception…)

MemberGlew is quite the character in The High King!

MemberIsn’t he though?
I wish they’d make a real whamdinger real-life movie of the Prydain Chronicles…wouldn’t that be somethin’?

Don’t get your hopes up. Disney still has the movie rights, and they may have plans to do a live action version, but I don’t think there’s much keeping them from slaughtering the books again.
