I like KoA better, but if you haven’t read The Thief, maybe that’s why you didn’t like KoA–they sort of have to be read in order. The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, The King of Attolia.

The Thief is more of a kids’ book though, so I found it easier to concentrate on. And thus, less boring. :P (though also less deep.)

Hmm. I thought I heard somewhere that the KoA was the first one…much to my chagrin, I soon found out it wasn’t!!! *is hacked off*

How do you like it? I think I liked Kidnapped better.

Which, KoA? Yeah, the beginning is slow…the end is brilliant. :P I was seriously confused the first time I read it, until the end explained everything and a reread explained it even more.

I should reread it, I still find it confusing. :D My favorite is The Thief, followed by The King of Attolia, The Queen comes last. :)

I just finished Kidnapped, but so far I think I like them about the same, though in different ways. Kidnapped was a little bit slower, but it had alot of cool Scottish stuff.

Kidnapped is really good if you can get it on audiobook, narrated by somebody with a good Scottish accent! Wonderful!

Oh yeah! I’ve only listened to a few audio books, but I liked ’em, so I need to find s’more. I’ll make an audio-book thread.

By-the-by: I LOVE Scotland and their accents! Know any good Scottish books?

Douglas Jones’ writes Scottish books, I believe. If I remember correctly. :D My older sister adores his books. :D

The Stranger by Camus. Short and rather rotten book. ;)

Kidnapped is a good Scottish book.

Oh, and there’s a trilogy. . . I haven’t read it personally. . . the first one is Duncan’s War, I believe. *goes to look* Aha! I was right. The Crown and Covenant trilogy by Douglas Bond. The back of the book says ages 10 to 14, but I don’t know how accurate that is.

The second one is (whether the publisher says so or not) for a bit older audience. The main character is 16, so I would assume that the 10-14 year olds wouldn’t quite identify. I haven’t read the third one yet. Anybody here read it?

I’ve read the first one…it was ok, I guess. Just not all that great. I dunno why I couldn’t get into it; maybe too much history and not enough fiction? The characters just weren’t real. Eloise Jarvis McGraw writes some GOOD h/f!

I’ve only read the first one, but I loved it and wish I could find a way to get the other books without buying them new. *cringes at thought of spending that much money on two books*

I love Scottish Chiefs, by Jane Porter, but I don’t know if everyone would. It’s about William Wallace, but it’s a romanticized story, and I’ve read people complaining that he’s too perfect. I, however, don’t care, and am in love with the book anyway. It’s an older book, and pretty long, too.

Amazon sometimes has used books in fairly good condition for a penny and up! I love when Mom orders ‘penny books’. Only thing is, if you order several, they’re coming from different places so they won’t all come in a nice little box.

Amazon also has free shipping wi. a purchase of $20 or something.

Started the third Mitford book, I love it! Very cozy.
