A lazy bird named Mazy is tired of sitting on her nest and trying to keep her egg warm, so when Horton the elephant comes along, she begs him to take care of her nest and egg. Horton finally agrees and Mazy flies off for a vacation at the beach. But Horton’s friends laugh at him, and hunters come and capture him and the tree with the nest with the egg. (And the green grass grows all around, all around, the green grass grows all around…) But Horton stays faithful, one hundred percent.
This is a great book. It’s humorous and rhyming. Please read this book!

This is a collection of short stories about Prydain. It’s very helpful for learning a little bit of the “background” history of Prydain, including the story behind Dyrnwyrn and how Orddu, Orgoch and Orwen found Dalben. There’s a fun story with Doli and several others.
I enjoyed this one. It’s a quick read, and there’s not a lot to it, but you could consider it a “nutritional supplement” for the Prydain Chronicles. I would recommend that you read the Chronicles first, then this one, not that it gives anything away, but it might make more sense. It’s a nice mix of six stories, (that’s a tongue-twister!) and it works great for a “quickie” while I’m waiting for something or other. Enjoy!

The evil Duke is so cold, he froze time on the clocks in his castle. He also claims to be the uncle of the beautiful princess Saralinda, who (of course) every prince wants to marry. Enter Prince Zorn, who (again, of course) wants to marry the princess. But it’s not that easy. The duke has a test for every prince who comes along, and he tells Zorn to bring him jewels equal to Zorn’s father’s treasury in 24 hours! Even with the help of the one and only Golux, can Zorn accomplish this task?
Well, it’s a fairy tale, what do you think happens? Thurber has quite a weird take on fairy tales. If you want more, try The White Deer.

George is a very curious monkey who lives in Africa. One day, a man with a yellow hat puts his hat on the ground, and George goes to look at it. The man pops George into a bag, and takes him home on a boat. What will they do there? And can George stay out of mischief?
No, he can’t! And that’s just what makes it fun. You can learn some valuable lessons about obedience from George.

Five stories about Frog and Toad, in which Toad makes a list of things to do and can’t do anything that is not on his list, Frog has a garden and Toad wants one also, Toad makes cookies and he and Frog must stop eating them using will power, Frog and Toad decide to see how brave they are and Toad has a very disturbing dream.
These stories are absolutely hilarious! Toad is the sort who likes everything to go just the right way and doesn’t like to wait either. Frog is quiet and willing to try things again. I think my favorite story in this book is the one about the cookies. And of course there’s Toad’s ever-present phrase: “Blah.” I highly recommend this book for younger readers.
