When Cluny the Scourge lays siege to Redwall abbey, the home of peaceful mice, Matthias must find the lost sword of Martin the Warrior. The adventure that follows involves a quest to the abbey roof and an evil adder named Asmodeus.
Starting a series of great books, Redwall is worth reading again and again. This is one of my personal favorites. What happens to the shield of Martin in the later books? I wonder…

The evil wildcat Queen Tsarmina is determined to take over Mossflower Woods, forcing the inhabitants to slavery. Being unused to the ways of war, the woodlanders are in a desperate situation when Martin the Warrior arrives. They decide to send Martin on a journey to find the Badger Lord, Boar the Fighter. But the woodlanders are running out of time. They can’t hold Tsarmina back much longer. Will Martin the Warrior return in time to save them from their impending fate?
Even though Redwall is the beginning of the series, I read Mossflower first, and I actually like it better for starting things off. It’s a whole lot of fun and one of my favorites. There’s a Mossflower Crossword Puzzle at the official Redwall site, too.

Edmund and Lucy aren’t pleased when they have to visit their bratty cousin Eustace, but things brighten up considerably when they find their way into Narnia once more. Caspian, now a king, has embarked on a quest to find the seven lords his evil uncle banished. The good ship Dawn Treader takes them far in their search, but some of them, Reepicheep particularly, desire to sail on to the End of the World.
A good book, if not my favorite in the chronicles. Eustace’s story adds a nice touch.

Mr. Boomschmidt, the circus owner, is in a quandary and a dilemma. So he calls on Freddy to help him out of it. Mr. Boomschmidt explains that when Mademoiselle Rose, the horseback rider, refused to marry Mr. Condiment, the sour-faced comic book publisher, Mr. Condiment threatened to close down the circus—forcing Rose to marry him for money. Since then, he’s been doing all sorts of things to stop the show, the newest of which is dive-bombing the circus in a plane. Freddy must summon up all of his detective skills in order to solve this growing dilemma.
This is one of the best Freddy books! Freddy gets to use some of his sidesplitting disguises, and with Sniffy Wilson, the skunk, and his family pretending to be Robin Hood and his Merry Men, the results are hilarious!

Eustace and Jill return to Narnia! This time, Aslan has been absent for a long while, but reports have come to King Tirian and his unicorn Jewel that Aslan has returned. Then a wise centuar tells them that this Aslan is a fake! Tirian tries to stop him, but ends up captured by the Calormens. Eustace and Jill must rescue the king and his unicorn and expose the false Aslan before it’s too late.
Sad to say, this book ends The Chronicles of Narnia. The battle at the end is great (it goes on for a few chapters). There are several sad parts, but of course, all comes right in the end. I think that this is a fitting end to the series, but I wish that C. S. Lewis had written more.
