The Middle Moffat

Our rating: ****

Sylvie is “the oldest child,” Joey is “the oldest son,” Rufus is “the baby in the family,” but Jane is just Jane. So, Jane decides to become the middle Moffat.

This book is kind of hard to write a summary for. A lot of things happen in The Middle Moffat. This is the second book in the series about the Moffats. A pretty good book, in my opinion.

The Very Busy Spider

Our rating: ****

A spider is busy spinning her web. Different animals come and talk to her, but the spider doesn’t answer. She is busy spinning her web.

Another good Eric Carle book. Eric Carle has good, colorful illustrations. I like this book.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Our rating: ****

One night, a caterpillar hatches and finds that he is very, very hungry. He eats and eats and eats and eats and eats — and soon is a big, fat caterpillar. Then he makes a cocoon….

A nice, colorful, humorous book. I like it.

Stormy, Misty’s Foal

Our rating: ***

Misty, the well-known and beloved horse of Chincoteague, is expecting to foal any day now, but a raging storm starts flooding the island and destroying the herds of wild ponies. Paul and Maureen Bebee grow more and more worried for Misty every day as the evacuation process begins and the anguish of separation draws near.

This is a special story of how the islands were destroyed, and how love and hope helped to rebuild courage. The key downside with this book is that a large portion of the plot is in deciding what to name Misty’s foal. Well, judging from the title, that’s decidedly non-suspenseful.
You might also want to take a look at Misty of Chincoteague, the first Misty book.

Freddy Rides Again

Our rating: ****

Mr. Elihu Margarine and his family have just moved to the Beans’ neighborhood. Mr. Margarine likes to hunt foxes and he rides over everyone’s property, not caring what gets destroyed. And on top of that, a rattlesnake is threatening the lives of several animals. Freddy is determined to stop both menaces, but it’s not an easy task.

Like most of the Freddy series, this is a very funny book. Freddy’s Comanche Kid disguise adds to the humor. I very much recommend that you read this book. Enjoy!
