They are basically post-apocalyptic fantasy. Not fantastical at all, which is one of my favorite parts. Something normal to read between the fantasy movers (of the universe) and shakers (of the storyline)!
I reviewed The City of Ember, probably would have a problem doing The Prophet of Yonwood, it’s kinda bleah. The People of Sparks is better written than the first one (and the third one), but the conclusion it comes to is less that satisfying from a Christian perspective. Not as a atheism type of thing, but the main characters decide to ****SPOILER!!**** love their enemies, just because if we all love, that will prevent bad things. Oh please. ****END OF SPOILER!!****
I’m really enjoying the fourth one, though. I have maybe a third of it to go.
So there’s your crash course in the Ember series.
Love and peace and all thet jazz? *sniffs at pomander*
Exactly. That didn’t resonate to well with me (in case you can’t tell!). But the rest of the book was good! Very compelling.
*is currently reading City of Ember*
I read City of Ember and kind of liked it. What does everybody think about The People of Sparks?
It was mildly interesting. I liked Ember better.
“Mildly interesting” about sums it up.
The ending was clichéd and painfully politically correct…and most of the reason I liked CoE was because of Ember itself, so I didn’t adore People of Sparks all that much.
Has anyone read the fourth book? Ember is still the best, but it’s not bad.

Agreed!
I thought City of Ember was alright. I wouldn’t really buy it, though. *shrugs* I like the movie better.
I bought it for fifty cents at a library booksale.
The movie was all right…what did you like about it more than the book?
I don’t know. I just didn’t enjoy the book as much. I didn’t really get connected with the characters. Maybe it was something about the writing style. Granted, I was pretty tired when I read it, and I read it all in one day.
I mean, the movie isn’t my new favorite movie or anything, I just liked it better than the book.
