I get a lot of books from the kids’ section, get mostly nonfiction from the adults’ section (or order the books beforehand) and go into the teen section only when I need a particular book, rushing back out as quickly as possible in hopes of escaping detection. (The contents [in general] of those shelves are another thing that causes despair.)
*hopes she doesn’t sound too snobbish*
*applauds uproariously at Alyosha’s statements concerning the teen section, then decides that if she’s a snob, he must be, too*

My library doesn’t have any Wii or any such thing. Maybe they have one in the mysterious B.
They do tend to have very outdated computer games of the worst in their genre.

MemberI bet The B is chock full of stereotypically TEEN things; they only let teens who look and act and generally are teens in there, while us uncultured, unfashionable folk must browse the battered bookcases.
I’m somewhat of a review nut, because I don’t wanna waste good money or credits or time on a cheesy book, I like to know what I’m gonna read (or watch, BTW).
Oh, jordan and Alassiel, I am closing my PBS account in a few weeks, since Mom doesn’t want her name on there anymore (I log in as her!
) and keeping up two account is gittin’ mighty expensive!!!

MemberOh, too bad about PBS. Well, get some good books while you can.
I am a review nut too. I usually don’t buy anything until I have read reviews for it from multiple sources. It drives me nuts when I can’t find out anything about a book, etc.

Its all about doing hard things, changing your world, and not being comfortable with the low expectations that teenagers have. It was a wonderful book! Check out http://www.dohardthings.com

MemberIn Response to the Sept. 11 attacks, my family made a big patriotic quilt that we auctioned off at our library. It went really well. We were in the newspaper! Only, that day my mom made me wear this really ugly dress

MemberPip here again;
Oh, Do Hard Things rocks!!! I’m doing it now, and Oi luves it!
Ok, so Mom has decided to go to the library every other week! *ecstatic applauding* We had been going every week for a speech class I was participating in, but that ended yesterday so here we are. I have been wanting to read the Circle Trilogy by Ted DeKker, but the library only had the second and third. Some other loverly person had the first book and wouldn’t give it back. Finally, after weeks of wondering how long it takes the average teen to read an average novel, I put it on hold. Library calls me this afternoon, saying the book I’d just put on hold came in today, and that I only have one week to pick it up. How typical is that???

MemberWe can do that too, but it’s not very reliable. However, my librarians have made several pointed comments suggesting that I try it, so I make an effort to do it more often.
