MemberSo, if you want to curl up with a good book, where do you go to read? Do you prefer to read lying down or sitting up? Inside or outside? Couch or chair? Do you like to listen to music while reading? Do you mind reading in the car? How about while you eat?
My favorite place to read is at my desk in my room. I do have a saucer chair, but it’s not very comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. Sometimes I will read in my bed, but usually only with smaller books, as larger ones are hard to hold. I love the outdoors, but I don’t enjoy reading there, with the bugs, sun, and wind blowing my pages around. I also like to read on the couch downstairs, except usually there are little brothers there watching a movie or playing chase. I like music while reading, as long as it sorta fits the mood of the book. I don’t mind reading in the car, and I always like to have something around to read while eating, especially at breakfast.

MemberMost of my reading gets done on my bed, because of a long established practice that used to be nap time.
If a book is particularly good and I have the time to keep reading, I’ll carry it out to the couch and preferably stretch out on the whole thing, but with five other people in the family, that’s not often a reality.
I often bring long books on vacation so I can read them in the car. So I really don’t mind at all.
If I’m reading non-fiction Web pages, I will use my family’s iTunes library in a particularly random fashion. That means that I’ll listen to a huge variety of genres on shuffle.

MemberHahaha, I can sympathise about couch! Also our sofa is visible from the kitchen, so the moment I sit down it’s “Alyosha, come wash the dishes, grate the cheese, chop the carrots, make lasagna!” Ah well.
I mostly read on my bed, and with music, always with music. Preferably wordless. Pirates 3 and Legend of Zorro are the current choices.
I read in the car too; my siblings are so jealous

Actually it’s ’cause I’m usually already on the couch.

MemberLol, Ben!~
I read anywhere and everywhere, except at the table cause I wanna talk with me family. I’ve been known to have read hours out in the hot sunshine (I love hot, clear, unhumid weather and everybody thinks I’m nuts
)and get very sunburned (today I look like a native of “Darkest Peru”) and I’ve also been known to read books while sitting in a tree! I can’t read too much in the car because *bemoans the unchangeable fact* I get carsick! I do lotsa reading on our front porch step and on my bed, a bit in the basement, and most of it in my room (after boosting the sibs away from the TV or electric piano!)
. I’ve been able to read upside down, sideways, and the boring rightside up. I can read really well with music, but not with dramatizations or talkies or movies playing. I once crocheted a whole 8ft. blanket, and much of the endless rows were made while happily reading a book and listening to CDs, all at the same time. I can brag about that ‘un! A book in hand, a pen tucked into my wild curly hair and ink splotches on my hand are perfectly natural for Pip.

Do you rotate the book too?

MemberI only read at the table if it’s just me eating. I don’t read during supper, which is the only meal we usually have all together.

MemberMy family is strictly forbidden to read at the table/well eating because of family socialization and the dreaded reality of food ending up on the books and glass spills and things like that. That doesn’t mean books are never taken to the table or are never around food, infact, I’ve got ketchup all over The Pirates of Pompeii when I read it.
I read just about anywhere, bed, car, chair, table, floor, outside, inside, upside, downside, things like that.

MemberYup, I’m not allowed to read at dinner either–one must be social then if no other time, I suppose.

MemberYeah, I HAVE to rotate the book! Although I can read a book upside down with me rightside up, slowly. If I’m alone for meals and there’s no one in the house, which doesn’t occur but like, once every year, I will read.
I’m verra sunburned from reading outside!

MemberI’m not allowed to read at the table, but occasionally I will bring a book to read a passage from it in order to enlighten my dad (who has missed so many classics that the rest of my family feels sorry for him).

MemberLol! Kinda like my mom; she bemoans the fact that her earlier life was too busy to squeeze in classics, so I read them and tell her about them. Right now I’m keeping her posted on The Robe.

I nailed my sister’s brand-new copy of “A Penny for Your Thoughts” with a peppermint shake. *cringes* I felt so bad!
I generally read on my bed. And, for the most part, in a position that is not good for my back or spine or neck, or anything else.

MemberI usually read on the couch or on my bed. Sometimes I’ll read for a little while on one, then go and read some more on the other for a while, and so on. Sometimes I read in the car as well.
Have you tried those travel bracelets, Pip? They might be helpful to you if you want to read in the car. The bracelet has a bead-like thing on it that applies gentle pressure to a certain point on your wrist. It’s supposed to prevent travel-sickness. I usually use them when I read in the car.
