Father Tim is facing retirement, but that certainly doesn’t slow him down. As usual, lots is happening in Mitford. Esther Cunningham, who has been the undisputed mayor of Mitford for many years, faces an opponent in the upcoming election, Miss Sadie’s house is beginning to fall into disrepair and Father Tim has to find a buyer for it, and they’re still trying to locate Dooley’s siblings. And to top it all off, the Sweet Stuff Bakery may be closing!
What can I say? It’s another great Mitford. All the characters, old and new, are just as real as before. Hooray for Mitford!

Finally, Father Tim and Cynthia are getting married! But there’s so much to do before the wedding. Will Esther Bolick or Winnie Ivy bake the cake? Can Uncle Billy think of a new joke before the wedding? Will Father Tim and Cynthia even get there in time?
When reading A Common Life, you must remember that it really comes right after A Light in the Window ends. This can be confusing, because some characters show up that have left the series, and you’ll be wondering where certain others are for this whole thing. It’s not your typical Mitford book, as it follows everybody during their preparations, instead of just Father Tim. It’s also much shorter, and only took me a few hours to finish. However, A Common Life is a delightful book with many fun and interesting points.

An increasing number of hungry monsters create general chaos at a boy’s house as they look for something to eat.
Everything here is in rhyme. For the first ten pages or so, the monsters ask to be fed. For the next ten, the boy brings out food. To finish the book, the monsters play with their food until the boy gets fed up with them (no pun intended).

When Melissa’s Uncle Fred receives some very unusual eggs for his pet shop, they prove to be lots and lots of different dragons! Melissa agrees to take them home and document their likes, dislikes, and general behaviors. For example, the Nidgets are rather timid and find comfort with small, round objects, the Dweebs tend to be a bit destructive, the Floaters are very useful in housecleaning, the Camos will eat everything in sight, and so on…
Wonderful! Find this book right away and read it! The dragons are so funny, and the illustrations are excellent. You may enjoy the special bonus of the dragons’ “latin names” in the end of the book. The Camos’ is “Gluetenous Fridgidarium.” Unfortunately, How to Choose Your Dragon is out of print, but you should check your library—they might just have it!

Now that Father Tim and Cynthia are married (you knew they would), they have to adjust to life together. Plus, Father Tim has a brand new set of things to deal with. He can’t figure out Lord’s Chapel’s new computer system, Cynthia is redecorating and moving furniture, J. C. Hogan is acting strange, he’s got to hire a chaplain for Hope House, and he and Cynthia have a life-changing experience while camping.
Whew! Father Tim is a very busy man! The third book in the Mitford series is just as enjoyable as the first two. Everybody is as real as before. I love this series, and I hope you will, too.
