Prince Caspian

Our rating: ****½

Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are suddenly called back to Narnia, and they find that Narnia is suffering under the reign of the cruel King Miraz. The king’s nephew, (and son of the murdered rightful king) Caspian, has learned the truth about Old Narnia and has fled the palace. He discovers a group of Old Narnians in hiding who agree to help Caspian regain his rightful throne and save the remaining Old Narnians from certain death.

The Narnia series is one of my favorites. I think C. S. Lewis has a wonderful writing style that really makes the characters come alive.

Freddy Goes to Florida

Our rating: ****

The farm animals are dreading the long, cold winter ahead of them. Then, a swallow suggests that they migrate! So a small party of animals, including Freddy the pig, head for Florida. On their trip they face many dangers, but always find some way out. But best of all, they bring Mr. Bean, the owner of the farm, a surprise present that will change their lives!

A great start to the Freddy series! There are some very funny parts.

Freddy the Pied Piper

Our rating: *****

When Jerry the rhinoceros comes all the way from Virginia to ask Freddy’s advice, Freddy knows something is up! And something is up. Mr. Boomschmidt, the circus owner, is running out of money! Things get so bad that the animals have to be sold or sent into the country on their own. And when Leo the lion disappears, Freddy, with the help of a few friends, set out to save the day!

Another enjoyable book in the Freddy series. Though there is a pied piper part, the book is mainly based on helping Mr. Boom.

Freddy and the Ignormus

Our rating: ****

When the First Animal Bank is robbed, and the animals begin receiving threatening letters, everyone starts to panic. Rumors appear about a strange creature called the Ignormus living in the Big Woods. Things get worse and worse until Freddy decides to organize a group of animals and find out what the Ignormus really is, and what it’s up to.

This is another great book. A must-read for all Freddy fans.

The Long Patrol

Our rating: *****

Young Tamello De Fformelo Tussock dreams of joining the Long Patrol, a group of trained fighting hares who serve Lady Cregga Rose Eyes, the badger ruler of Salamandastron. When Russa Nodrey, a traveling squirrel, visits Camp Tussock, Tammo’s mother, Mem Devinia, helps Tammo to run away with Russa to join the Long Patrol, despite Tammo’s father’s wishes. Meanwhile, Damug Warfang and his Rapscallion horde are making their way towards Redwall Abbey. Redwall’s defenses are down and they need the Long Patrol’s help.

I believe this is the shortest book of the Redwall series, but still quite good. It’s unique in that it follows Tammo and the Long Patrol all throughout the story, giving you time to get to know all the hares in it. It does, of course, flip between the plots like in all the others. Well, let’s hear it for the Long Patrol! Eulalia!
