What if we started an on-topic thread, but which is really for being off-topic, but the thread doesn’t know that…
Fifty thousand already?!? :o
:cry:It could be that the avatar switched of its own accord. It does that sometimes, you know.

I read the other day in one of the NaNo forums that chocolate is great for the uninspired-writer’s brain. *stuffs face*

Hmm….that is quite the scheme.
It does? I had not known that mere avatars were capable of such…diabolicalism?

Drat. I am so unoriginal. *weeps*
Chocolate…hmm…I think I’ll stick with tea, myself (the only chocolate we have round here at the moment is the cheap Nestle Halloween stuff. Ugh).
‘Course, they also swear by coffee…
*listens to Weird Al’s eBay song for the millionth time because her sister is recording it on a tape or something* A++ they all say/They love me on Ebay… Tchochkes is an awesome word–if you take the “useless junk” meaning. *turns on the Penelope soundtrack to drown it out*
Remembrance Day service at church today…

MemberSassajes, I LUVES that!! I was wondering whether anyone noticed but yeah, it celebrates Most Glorious Randomness.
Aly, your friends must be of another world. Either that, or obsessively hyked up on chocolate.
Has anyone ever heard the band Switchfoot? Typically, I don’t like rock music (gives me a headache and makes me nervous) but I’d recorded a CD of theirs for my older sis’s CD and I’ve been listening to it. They have brave lyrics, that’s fer sure. At least this album does. Speaking of bands, I heard a live performance of Rush of Fools on the radio. Uhm…so I thought ok, this’ll be nice to hear them perform live…uh-uh. He was off-key the whole time!!! Even I noticed, and I shudder to think what my used-to-be-a-music-major Mom woulda said of ’em.
Oh man, frozen cranberry cookies! Heaven. We make something kinda like that called Buckwheatie Bars. We dehydrate buckwheat and mix in all sorts of dried fruits, and then freeze ’em. Dad takes ’em ta work, but I loik ’em too.
We got our new juicer today!!! I’m inclined to suggest the placement of carrot juice right up thar wi. root beer! (And that’s sayin’ a lot)
Our puppy, Tootsie Roll, came in all muddy today, that was loverly.
I’m hosting a book discussion on Do Hard Things on my blog in January, non-members of HSB are welcome to attend!
Speaking of blogs, I frequently post pictures of my family and me on there, so if anyone’s dying to know what I look like, that’s the place ta go.

We got a weird teen magazine today with all sorts of gals that needed “decorating” *evil laughs* but on one page were these brown suede lace-up boots that one only sees in LotR or Eragon. Glorious!!!

What’s the point of watching a movie about people killing each other for fun? And they all have the cute girl too. (The movie does not the gladiator.) But, I suppose I should allow you to like what you like. *sighs*

@Pip:
I have exactly four Switchfoot-freak friends. No, make that four point five. At first I refused to like them because everyone else did.
Now…eh, they’re ok, there are a couple songs by them that I like. Which album?Brown suede lace-up boots = Lovely. Very.
Juicers, ah yes…we have one, every once in a while it’s dragged out and we’re subjected to carrot-beet-sour apple juice, for our health.
Wish I could join the book discussion, I really want to read DHT but noooo, my library won’t buy it. Maybe I will someday. Buy it, that is. I take it you liked the book?
*is amused at the Rush of Fools story*
And was that a very subtle hint for us to go read your blog? *does so*
“Sossajes” is from Coraline by Neil Gaiman, which I liked quite a lot. *ignores Owan’s frown*
It’s sort of like Alice in Wonderland–witty and otherworldish. But a little creepier.@Owan who is much better about using quotes than I am:
I think there was one TobyMac song that I liked, once upon a time. Can’t remember the name of it now. But there was.
His isn’t really “hard” rap though — you should hear what some of the kids at school listen to. It has no melody and no harmony, and it must take great talent to understand the words, if there are words and not just meaningless shouting. It consists wholly of overbearing rhythm, and rhythm alone does not music make. TobyMac isn’t quite like that, I presume.Haha, I was trying to figure out if Avatar Girl was you…there is certainly a resemblance.
I read some of Leepike Ridge yesterday. A whole chapter. Yay me. [/sarcasm] Then we got back from skating (which none of my friends attend any more, so I skate for the obligatory half hour and read for the rest of the time) and it was back to writing and schoolwork. *sigh* I’m going to just sit down and finish it tonight maybe, it’s too good to only read snatches of here and there.
Re. “Never said a truer word” — Wellll, the Dufflepuds aren’t exactly known for their accuracy and keen insight in such matters. Every time? To quote another Narnia character, “To hear is to obey.”
That voice article is v. interesting. I wonder if it’s just other Americans who think they sound Swedish/English/whateverish, or if people from those countries would.
The eBay song happens to be hilarious, so there.
(More precisely, it WAS hilarious before I heard it so many times.) *says as eBay pelts her with ten consecutive emails* Make that eleven. The words to Canadian Idiot are amusing but the music is not my style. And that’s all I’ve heard by him.Re. Word counts: That’s just because you write more in the mornings (the middle of the night for me) and I write more in the evenings (the middle of the night for you). So naturally any time one gets on the other seems ahead. *feels like a Logical!MovieSusan* However, it is undeniable that at the present moment you have 2K more than I do. Ha.

Re. Tea, Spilt and Otherwise: Yes, exactly. Fun to shriek. Not so fun to clean up the tea (because it fell all inside the kitchen drawers which I forgot to shut as usual). I’m sure it livened up my aunt’s answering machine though. *wonders if said aunt appreciated her effort*
Oh, and in answer to a long-ago blog comment, no, I didn’t end up going to the conference thing. This is the first time I’ve been glad over results of the falling economy.

I stayed up until three writing last night.
Very subtle hints.
Uh…………*thumps forehead*…………..I know I knew the title of the Switchfoot album at one time or ruther. Looky here, I’ll click Post It and then go, “Oh!”
Don’t remember if I told y’all but that blogger friend who wrote the Inklings members into her NaNo novel? Well, another member and I are collaborating together and writing a sequel!!! *does customary happy dance*
EDIT: Come to think of it, someone should write all of us into a book…wouldn’t that make an editing nightmare?

MemberLong Posts to Annoy People With? Sounds good to me. Although, in a perfect world, people would realise that long posts are good and therefore they would not be annoyed by them. huzzah!
A nightmare? Yes indeed. You write the book, I’ll do the editing.
Ha, I stayed up until two writing the other night and got a well-deserved tongue-lashing for my trouble–blame it on the pile of stuff I knocked over in the dark; that alerted the whole house to my unsomniferous state–so no more all-nighters for me, not that I could survive one anyhow. I usually get to bed around 1:30 AM, bad habit, bad habit… *notes that it is already 12:17*
Did you know that if you go without sleep for three days straight, you are legally considered insane? …oh wait, Google says that’s an urban myth. How disappointing. Look at this instead, then.
The Overly Loud People do not deserve your sympathy.

Alyosha: I think there was one TobyMac song that I liked, once upon a time. Can’t remember the name of it now. But there was.
His isn’t really “hard” rap though — you should hear what some of the kids at school listen to. It has no melody and no harmony, and it must take great talent to understand the words, if there are words and not just meaningless shouting. It consists wholly of overbearing rhythm, and rhythm alone does not music make.*agrees, and would say “Amen” if she was anything like some of the people on the NB boards*
Meaningless shouting? Since when does rap include shouting? *ponders* Rap is generally really unskinny guys that aren’t white saying a bunch of one or two syllable words in quick succession (sometimes referred to as “spoken word”). The meaningless shouting is generally in songs labeled “hard rock” or “heavy metal” which includes a great deal of guitar and drumming with not much else in the music part of the song and not much for lyrics except alot of…meaningless shouting.
Alyosha: Haha, I was trying to figure out if Avatar Girl was you…there is certainly a resemblance.
You too? I must have a partiality to girls that look like me. *wonders why* Because here is another one: http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h165/NarniaFan101/OTHERpictures/Avatars–SIGNATURESxXxBANNERS/girl-book.png

Alyosha: That voice article is v. interesting. I wonder if it’s just other Americans who think they sound Swedish/English/whateverish, or if people from those countries would.
I don’t think they do. It seems they couldn’t label one particular accent to that woman. It’s probably her brain’s own personal accent and it sounds very nice…
That’s all I have time to say right now. Must run. *runs accordingly*

Alyosha: The eBay song happens to be hilarious, so there. [
] The words to Canadian Idiot are amusing but the music is not my style. And that’s all I’ve heard by him.Hilarious? *finds it to be very, very stupid* Weird Al isn’t just weird, he’s more than weird. *so saying makes a metal note to listen to Canadian Idiot*

MemberVery creative, Sarah. ^^
*has a headache but hit 45K today so it’s all good* Everyone congratulate Owan for reaching The Goal. You may bow at this point, Owan. Speech is optional.
Re. The Economy: Probably a mix of both. Or maybe I’m guessing on the second. But yeah, anything that happens to America’s economy is going to affect Canada’s too.
I became interested in politics this year which is something I said I would never do, but it’s going to take some more convincing for me to even vaguely understand or properly appreciate this whole economics business.

Re. That eBay Song: Oh yes, it’s definitely stupid, it wouldn’t be funny if it wasn’t. *nods* But if you think that version is stupid, you should hear the original. (You are my fiiiire/My heart’s desiiiire — Insert whiny vocals throughout.) His Spiderman parody is amusing too, but that’s probably just because my friends used to torture me with the song it was based on (The Piano Man or something insipid like that) so naturally it interests me to see it Improved.
And I’ve been writing more in the mornings and afternoons. How coincidental. So we never did get to do a word war, how sad. (But my fault *cough*) I only did one this NaNo, and it was fun but I don’t particularly enjoy them, just because the turnout rate of absolute JUNK is so much higher than usual. And for me said rate is pretty high to begin with. So. ^^
*corrects her mental files* Ok, rap is not meaningless shouting. Might be meaningless talking though. Perhaps it’s Latin. Or Esperanto.
C.S. Lewis died forty-five years ago today.
Yes, you all ought to read Leepike Ridge. Really. You should. Right? Of course right.

Why am I wearing a tiger blanket over mah head?
*stares unlfinchingly at Owan’s machine gun* I got a dagger, see here?
I would buy the book! *raises hand high*
Man, it’s gettin’ COLD here. I’m gonna haveta wear mah big black thing to town now.
*is silent at the words “failing economy* It’s the end of the world as we know it…
I’ve been writing a lot! *sigh* I have nuthin’ say.
November 24, 2008 at 8:08 pm #43774Owan
MemberAlyosha: You may bow at this point, Owan. Speech is optional.
*bows as directed* Thank you for making the speech optional, BTW, I *squeaks* contracted a cold yesterday. Funny how it is, I hit fifty (it’s not finished, you know), you give me apple cider vinegar, and I get a cold.
I’m sorry, Pip. *apologizes* The use of “Amen” (pronouced: ah-men) gets rather crazy on the NB boards and, of course, other places too. For instance someone will say “Wouldn’t it be great if Peter and Summer did a duet? I think it’d be pretty” and someone else comes and replies to the thread or message with “Mmmm, amen!” They use it in terms of hearty approval (and it is always after a series of Ms), which is perfectly fine according to the dictionary (“Mmmm, I agree!”) but I would rather “Amen” be used as a way of saying “Hallelujah.”
Or at the ends of hymns and prayers. *shrug*Umm…yeah. So that is why, unlike my friends on the NBBs, I would not readily say “Amen” in reply to Alyosha’s comments on rap and tobyMac but would instead give a hearty “I agree!” which means the same thing but…uh, yeah.
If you can make any sense of that they I suppose I’ll share you a little bit of my apple cider vinegar.Alyosha: But yeah, anything that happens to America’s economy is going to affect Canada’s too.
Hmm, reminds me of something Paul Colman said once. He says that Australia’s entire defense system and foreign policy is “stick with America” and that the two of us are great allies. Infact, as soon as the Aussies heard about the Iraq War they immediately sent their entire army of thirty-seven guys over to help. And a bunch of kangaroos.
That’s a fun interview, one of PC’s best. Even if you don’t like Paul Colman (shame!!) or Newsboys (shame-in-the-shape-of-snow-balls!) the interview is still a lot of fun. Paul’s a great (and funny) guy, seriously.Alyosha: (You are my fiiiire/My heart’s desiiiire — Insert whiny vocals throughout.)
Oh! Oh! Yuck. *cringes* I can just imagine how dreadful that would sound, and the fact that those are very similar lyrics to The Mission only makes it worse! “I wanna run with fire/It’s my heart’s desire/Lifting Your love higher…”
Alyosha: And for me said rate is pretty high to begin with.
Oh shush! *hits Alyosha over the head with a copy of Twilight* I really have difficulty believing your book is as bad as you say. Love your cover, BTW.
Pip: Rap is noise if it’s not God-glorifying,
Isn’t that true for any type or genre of music?
It’s getting cold here, too. It snows quite often. Most is just flurries or a light sprinkling of snow but this morning we got like a inch.
