They cannot leave the fish-herdess out of VotDT! Unless they’re going to do it incorrect, if they are, then feel free to leave her out. ;)

I suppose this could be a argumentative topic of conversations but generally a library for homeschoolers will include a Bible but not some other things even if the Bible includes audultry, murder, idolatry, language, witches/black magic, and things of that sort. ;) I find that somewhat interesting, how some books get judged and some don’t and the whole scheme of things. I..uh… *runs out of words* I began a book called Hitler’s Peace one time and couldn’t get past the first chapter because of some unpleasant “adult” themes which are much the same as one finds in the Bible, yet I look at the two books very differently. I shouldn’t try and explain. :P

The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau 270 pages

I was very pleased with this one! It’s for younger audiences, obviously, and so the writing is a simpler style without being bad (though the punctuation was a bit annoying). I enjoyed the plot and the pacing was good and kept me on the edge of my seat for a good hour or two (or three) it reminded me of Leepike Ridge — which I love, BTW. My only problem, basically, was with the ending…cliffhangers, sigh.

I have a bookbag that’s like Pip’s shirt. *fetches it* Alright, I have it here beside me, it’s green and white a cheap bag. Well, it’s mostly white one side it says “BOOKS by state of bliss” and on one side it has in green “Hours fly. Flowers die.” and in blue “I object to that remark very strongly” which I spelled remark wrong by mistake, it had in red “When she told a story, she rolled her eyes and waved her head and was very dramatic”. On the bottom it has “don’t I just wish I was big enough to punch your head” and on the other end “going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more then standing in your garage makes you a car”. So that’s all one side and the bottom, the center of the other side has on the top above a pocket “Owan ~ Sesquipedalian” further down in red “and I was the lion you do not remember” and in black “which demonstrates the sad poverty of the English launguage” on the side is “Father! Can I box him!” I didn’t have room for “Please” I also have in black “But ignorance here is less than bliss”.

It’s got to handles one has “Because I could not stop for death he kindly stopped for me, the carriage held but ourselves and Immortality” on the other side of this handle is in red “We read to know we are not alone — C. S. Lewis” the other handle has “newsboys” on it and the words “Say you need love”.

There’s also a pocket on the inside of it that has some of my favorite names on it: Stephen Black, Dunstan, Clemence, Istra, Duncan, Peter, Carman, Dagmar, Henri, Erik. :D

I’m sure that made no sense; but there you have it. ;)

I don’t believe I ever read a book online, and I don’t think I would as a first choice. I wouldn’t like to spend so much time on the computer. ;)

The Bible: The New Testament (NKJ version) 1,300 pages

What can I say? It’s interesting how even the youngest ages are allowed to read this book (the Bible) yet it’s full of all the different things that you generally wouldn’t allow a child to read until there atleast teenagers. ;) I forgot how disgusting the elements in Song of Solomon are… (“Thou shalt feel different when though hast a man of thine own, I warrant,” said the prince, apparently thinking this very funny.” — C. S. Lewis, The Silver Chair)

I’m over half way through, we get a prize for every 120 pages we read, and if we read 1,800 pages we’re put in a drawing for a t-shirt.

The prizes are really dull, BTW. ;)

In a nutshell, it’s about a city powered by lights, with nothing but darkness around it, and then the lights start to go out and two kids have to save the city…

Suddenly City of Ember sounds very interesting, *decides to read that next*

Also The Man Who Was Thursday by G.K. Chesterton. *grins at Owan*

Yes, The Man Who Was Thursday is quite lovely. If we’re voting, I vote you read it.

And after that you could start re-reading The Dragon Keepers so you’ll already for DragonLight or read The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents which is awesome — very lovely (and only two cases of d— and four or five of “gosh” which is very good compared to some). Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is very long though very good (some slightly creepy elements and a great deal of magic –some of which is black). I really like Holes and my siblings are all big on The Pushcart War right now, (my elder sister is re-reading it and discussions keep springing up about it since most of us have read it too).

Fairest by Gail Carson Levine 326 pages

The writing was pretty bad and the characters where shallow but the plot was good and kept me reading. Three stars.

The Writing Life by Annie Dillard 111 pages

The book is short and a “one time” read, it was interesting for a first but really pretty dull and no use to anybody. Two stars.

Surprised By Joy by C. S. Lewis 230 pages

This one was dull and slow going and I had a very hard time paying attention. I know it’s sacreligious to say something like that about Lewis but I can’t help it. Three stars.

The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett 340 pages

Four stars. If, that is, you can get around some violence, minor (a very little bit) of language– not counting countless swearing in Cat or in Rat–, and some amount of creepy “spiritual” discussion of a Rat King. I thought the “Sisters Grimm” was somewhat stupid and uncreative, but the Grim Squeaker bit was very amusing. The writing is pretty good, as is the plot, and pacing –though some might consider it to be a bit slow.

    Tomorrow. It’s tomorrow!

Do we have to finish the book before adding its pages to our quota?
