The mysterious Mr. Eha has been underhandedly trying to get Mrs. Filmore to sell her hotel. With the aid of rats, Mr. Eha is secretly making the hotel seem haunted and run-down. It’s up to Freddy, with the help of the Bean animals and his good friend Mr. Camphor, to defeat Mr. Eha and drive the rats away. Woven into the story is a funny subplot where Mr. Camphor’s two aunts, Aunt Elmira and Aunt Minerva have come to visit him.
Walter R. Brooks can certainly write an amusing story and this one is no exception. It’s not as hilarious as Freddy and the Flying Saucer Plans, but it is a gem of a Freddy. A quick tip: Freddy and the Baseball Team from Mars will make more sense if you read this one first.

Summer has arrived and it finds a very bored Freddy. So when Freddy finds a help-wanted job asking for the services of caretaker for a big summer mansion, he’s sure that he has found the perfect way to spend a peaceful summer. Far from it! Soon he learns that Simon and his rat gang are back to their old tricks, and Freddy must think of a way to get rid of them. And on top of that, Mr. Winch, the cook’s husband starts planting stolen property on Freddy, so when Mr. Camphor returns, he thinks Freddy has been stealing from him. Freddy ends up in a huge mess and must try to prove himself innocent.
As usual, Freddy manages to outsmart his adversaries with hilarious results. Elmo and Waldo are two very funny characters and Mr. Webb returns in an effort to form a bug’s cause in the war. This is another great Freddy book.

Signor Zingo, the well-known magician, is traveling with Mr. Boomschmidt’s circus. Freddy thinks it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn magic. So when Presto, Signor Zingo’s rabbit, offers to teach Freddy all he knows about magic, Freddy is delighted. As he learns more about magic tricks and begins to put on small shows, he uncovers suspicious information about Signor Zingo. His suspicions are soon confirmed and with the help of his friends, Freddy determines to prove to the unsuspecting inhabitants of Centerburo that Zingo is a crook.
This is one of my favorites of the Freddy books. The showdown between Freddy and Zingo during the magic performance is very hilarious.

Herb Garble, Mrs. Underdunk’s brother, is traveling with Boomschmidt’s circus, where he is exhibiting what he claims are live Martians. Freddy and the gang are sure something’s wrong, and while they are trying to figure out how to expose the Martians without hurting Mr. Boom’s reputation, the rats show up again. It’s packed full of fun, adventure, and plenty of the circus animals.
This is a pretty good Freddy book. Simon’s back, of course, and he’s not my favorite character. Although, since he’s the badguy, he’s not supposed to be your favorite character. Anyway, the rabbits’ club, The Horribles, is in this one, and eventually some real Martians come in their flying saucer. The Martians play a big part in Freddy and the Baseball Team from Mars, and also Freddy and the Flying Saucer Plans.

Squeak-Squeak the Martian disappears from Mr. Boomschimdt’s circus. Freddy the pig is called in to find him, but even he isn’t expecting that the other Martians don’t want him to help. In disguise as an old man, Mr. Arquebus, Freddy organizes a Martian baseball team. But when Mr. Anderson, a.k.a. Mr. Eha (the dangerous house haunting real estate man of Freddy Goes Camping fame), shows up at the games, Freddy knows something’s up.
I loved this Freddy book and couldn’t put it down. Absolutely hilarious! Freddy gets to be in disguise for almost the whole story. The baseball games are funny, too. Freddy uses his favorite Irish woman disguise, as he always does in the best Freddy books. The A. B. I. returns, and that usually spells a good Freddy mystery.
