1.) My church is have a summer reading thingy, and we are reading all the minor prophets. Can I count the pages in the book of Joel, Hosea, and the others?
2.) I have a science book I’ve doing this semester, and still have a lot left to go. I’ve been keeping track of what I’ve read on which days. When I finish it, could I count the pages I read from June 1st onward, or does it not count at all!?!
Yes, of course, anything you read in your Bible counts!
As for the science book, I’ll need to discuss it with the rest of the organizers. We’ll get back to you on that.

MemberI have the same sort of feeling. I started a longish book in the last week of May and now I’m trying to finish it quickly.

MemberI know. Adalin is my younger sister, and she has been doing nothing but read for the last few days. I have been doing a lot of reading too, but it’s mostly been A Tale of Two Cities, which I started at the end of May. It isn’t easy reading, so it takes a while to get through.

MemberI wasn’t very far into Alice in Wonderland, so I started reading it over again last night.

I know! I haven’t even finished a book yet and there are people who’ve already read a thousand pages! I’ll have to spend a lot more time reading.

MemberI just finished reading a book that has lots and lots of illustrations. There are full-page illustrations and then there are smaller illustrations on each page. How do I fairly count the pages for the Read-a-Thon?

MemberHow many is lots and lots? If the book was at, above, or around your reading level, then you can count whatever the page count is. Plus, full-page illustrations aren’t usually counted in the page count of a book by the publisher, so they are probably already not in the page count.

MemberI’m reading a bunch of smallish books, they really rack up numbers!

Books below your reading level do count if read aloud to others. So if you read a picture book to a younger sibling, you can count those pages!

MemberI got over 2,000 pages so far! But i do have one question. Whoever wins, how will you send the book to them? Just ask for there address? And how do you know if someone is making up all the pages they read?

We will ask the winners for their addresses through our PM system, or ask them to email us. Then we’ll forward it to the author of the book they’ve won, and they’ll send it to that person.
We’re doing this on the honor system, so we’re trusting everybody to be truthful about what books they’ve read. Obviously, if we find out that somebody is lying about their page count, they’ll be disqualified.

MemberHow do you find out?

MemberWell, hypothetically speaking in the regard of if we found out. If a list of books seems suspicious, we would contact the member and make sure that their list is legitimate.

MemberI think we’d all appreciate it if no one went into hiding until the day before the Read-a-Thon ends, and then surprise us with a million pages. We all need a chance to win, and we need to be fair.
