MemberMore news–they’re getting new writer(s). I have no abiding love for Markus and McFeeley, none whatsoever, so I’m immensely happy to hear this.
727 days! And I’m already much more excited for VDT than PC. How strange.

MemberMy experience with this series is that my library only has the first one. *weeps* Someday I’ll get around to ordering the rest by ILL. Five Children and It was good though, anything Nesbit is (The Treasure Seekers especially–love those books). I think they made a movie of FCaI too…

MemberI don’t think anyone saw my post because it was posted right before the forum moved, so I shall be egocentric and repost it here:
How long it took you to read it
Finished seven minutes before midnight on April 30th. So a month. (Don’t faint! It was not a book-deprived April. I read about fifteen other books in between. But somehow it’s hard to concentrate properly when rereading, as one already knows the plot…)
Based on some of the rumours floating around, did you see anything that might have given the script-writers a jumping-off point for their changes?
Night raid–not really, though we know that the Narnians are [SPOILERS] slaughtered during it, and before the Pevensies arrived in the book, there was “a night when everything had gone as badly as possible.” Also Reepicheep suggests a sort of night raid. Er… Sort of a connection there? Maybe?
“And of course Caspian offered the Horn back to Susan and of course Susan told him to keep it.” See? A romance right there. So obvious.
and, in Peter’s letter he calls himself “High King over all Kings on Narnia.” Aslan is the true “High King above all High Kings” (I think he’s called that more than once). Therefore, Peter is an arrogant jerk. w00t.
(Sorry. Sarcasm is fun.
I didn’t see anything about Peter vs Caspian. “I haven’t come to take your place, you know, but to put you into it,” sums up Peter’s humble, noble spirit pretty well.)
What did you notice in the book that you never saw before?
A lot of the descriptions, especially of the trees. I still don’t like all the walking-around-in-the-woods parts so much but the descriptions are so. amazingly. beautiful. (Well, not of them walking, but you know what I mean)
And Edmund. He’s changed so much since LWW that one would never, ever know he had been a traitor. I had forgotten entirely until the narrator reminded us of it in chapter two, and then I promptly forgot again. He has a most excellent sense of humour also; lots of witty remarks, always a good thing, hey?
And Edmund reads–“In books, they always find springs of clear fresh water.” (Also Goldwater in VDT, where he figures out the mystery because he’s read detective stories.) I love how he stands up for Lucy when no one else believes her, and how when he enters Miraz’s camp, “nor would the other boys at Edmund’s school have recognized him if they could have seen him at that moment. For Aslan had breathed on him at their meeting and a kind of greatness hung about him.”
Cornelius knew Caspian’s mother! I expect everyone knew that but me…
And Peter (and later Caspian) are Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Lion, and Edmund is a Knight of the Noble Order of the Table. Never noticed that before.
I also noticed Lewis’ fondness for using colons instead of m dashes.
The part that you think they just have to put in the movie!
–When Lucy meets Aslan, definitely
–The waking of the trees
–The 1940s English slang. By Jove! etc etc.
–The “give my love to everyone back home” bit during the duel
–The boys who became pigs
–Aslan’s awesomeness and power
Any favourite quotes?

MemberBut it has the usual treasure hunt/search for a lost heirloom plus vermin-attacking-the-Abbey sort of plotline.
It does sound more scary though. Hypnotic lights, ravens, snakes…yup. Even the cover is a little more, I don’t know, intense?

MemberAh, it’s up! lovely.
Can’t think of any requests, but the new forums look very shiny, and I like that there are less sections than with the old one…rather less confusing.
Alyosha
MemberI thought that was a different Dave Arnold…maybe not? But isn’t the AIO Dave Arnold one of the producers or something, not the composer?
Anyhow…I wouldn’t mind scenes with Trumpkin back at Cair Paravel though they seem sort of pointless, but having him on board the Dawn Treader will mess up the first sign in SC. Not sure how they plan to work around that.

MemberGood heavens, another Redwall book?
I like Redwall, but it seems turning into a formulaic mega-series. ah well…the summary does sound interesting.
*oughtn’t to talk, because she has still only read 2/3 of the books*

MemberHuzzah! And thank you! Now I can express my emotions with small round yellow things instead of words.
And those look infinitely better than the old forum’s. Very nice indeed.

MemberCurrently reading? too many things…
–Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (historical fiction/fantasy set in the Napoleonic Wars)
–Northanger Abbey (which so far I like a great deal more than Mansfield Park and P&P)
–The Elements of Style (why did I never learn these things in school?)
Hrm…not quite as much as I thought.

MemberFK’s report on Narniaweb was very encouraging. (And I needed something encouraging quite desperately, haha.)
I haven’t watched the clips and such yet, as they are altogether too spoilery. And the soundtrack clips…yes, I’ll say that those are too. Glad you like them though!

MemberGeometric designs most definitely. Those cartoon faces are just frightening.
