Anne is now a mother of five, soon to be six. This book chronicles a few years of the Blythe family’s life, from Aunt Mary Maria’s visit that goes on, and on, and on, through the many escapades of the usually well-meaning children.
This book doesn’t really have a definite on-going plot. Each of the children have their own little “adventures” of various sorts, and Anne herself is not very predominant until the very end, which does happen rather abruptly. I didn’t find it to be a highlight in the series, but it is worth reading if you have enjoyed the other Anne books.

Jane, Mark, Katharine, and Martha are four ordinary children. They love reading books about magic, but can’t help wishing they could find some magic somehow. Then, when Jane finds an old, dropped coin on the sidewalk, everything changes. It’s a magic coin that grants wishes. Well, almost. It will grant half of your wish. This may sound simple to thwart, but it’s not as easy as it seems. After all, if you have a cat that can half talk, how many times do you have to wish it to not talk before it’s back to normal?
This is a very funny book. The children go from one adventure to another, in a style very similar to E. Nesbit. Most of their wishes result in a minor disaster of some sort or another, and they have to figure out how to get everything back to normal. In the end though, everything is nicely resolved. I definitely recommend Half Magic.

Father Tim and Cynthia are farm sitting for the Owens, when his bishop gives him a new challenge: Fix up and open an old church in the mountains. However, he also has to do a few other things, such as raise Sammy Barlowe. Father Tim is pleasantly surprised to meet a lot of new friends in the mountains, but some of them are not very happy to see the church re-open.
The concluding novel in the Mitford Years series is definitely a good one. There’s a lot of things that Jan Karon leaves hanging. (I guess that’s so you’ll want to read the Father Tim novels) You’ll enjoy Light from Heaven as much as the preceding books.

A shopkeeper has two pets — a big goose, and a little white duck who can only quack very softly. A big boy wants to buy them for his mother, and because of a misconception that it was to be a present for him, his grandfather helps the big boy buy them. The grandfather is determined to eat the goose, but will the goose be able to prove himself useful before it’s too late?
This is a great book. There are some funny things in it. Please read this book! It’s pretty large print and it didn’t take me very, very, very long to read it. However, it’s probably larger than a normal picture book. Unfortunately, The Big Goose and the Little White Duck seems to be out of print. The Pye family, complete with Ginger and Gracie, were going to spend the summer on Fire Island! Once there, they find an “abandid” kitten named Pinky. The Pyes decide to keep her. They find out she has unusual talents, such as boxing with Ginger and even typing on their typewriter! Uncle Bennie came to Fire Island with them and develops an interest in crickets and grasshoppers. He starts keeping them as pets and Rachel will put them, inside their cricket and or grasshopper box, up in the eaves. But when they start disappearing… what’s up?
This is a great book. You can probably guess what’s up, so I didn’t categorize it as a mystery. Still, Pinky’s cute and I like the epilogue.
