Summer Read-a-Thon ’09

For the past two summers, we’ve hosted a Read-a-Thon. Last year, 236,550 pages were read.

Yet, something within me wants to yell, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”

That’s right, the Read-a-Thon is back in 2009!

What’s new this year?

The Read-a-Thon has its own portion of Incredibooks.com this time. For all the details on the Read-a-Thon, you’ll want to head over there and get acquainted. Be sure to read the full rules while you’re there.

Do you have prizes?

How’d you guess?

Some of our favorite authors have once again agreed to donate their books as prizes. Be sure to check out the prizes page to see the whole list.

By the way, a little bird told me that there may be more later… Keep checking back!

How do I join?

First, you’ll need to be a member of the Incredibooks Discussion Forum, so head over there and join if you’re not a member. Then head over to the sign-up page and fill out the registration form. We’ll get back to you soon to confirm your registration.

What can I do to promote the Read-a-Thon?

Glad you asked! We have a page with banners that you can put wherever you can upload ’em. Grab one you like and spread the word!

That’s about it! See you June 1st!

15 Ways to Tell If You Love Books

You might be a book lover if…

  • You relate everyone you meet to a book character.
  • You memorize your library card number.
  • Your library imposes a limit on the number of items that can be checked out on one card.
  • You know what an Inter-Library Loan really is and must explain it to everyone who uses the term improperly.
  • Your librarian knows you on sight and knows exactly where your spot on the hold shelf is.
  • Your wishlist is composed entirely of books.
  • You can rattle off the release dates of a dozen books on your wishlist.
  • People wonder if you ever give any gifts besides books.
  • Your first question to new friends is, “So, do you read much?”
  • You constantly nag your friends to read more.
  • You walk out of used book sales carrying several large boxes of books.
  • You insert random book quotes into conversations and don’t mind the perplexed looks.
  • You’ve had nightmares about going somewhere and forgetting your book.
  • Nobody will watch a movie with you because you keep yelling, “That wasn’t in the book!”
  • You plan on naming your children after characters from your favorite fantasy novel.

Special thanks to everybody in the forum thread who helped come up with this list!

Announcing the Picture Book Palooza

This November, starting tomorrow, Incredibooks is going to do what we’re calling a Picture Book Palooza. What’s a Palooza? Well, it’s a neologism that means, “A big event.”

We’re certainly doing a big event! From November 1st to November 14th, we will be posting 14 picture book reviews, one per day. You’re going to see some of our favorites, some obscure ones you’ve probably never heard of, and a few classics.

Be sure to comment on the reviews of books that you like, and you may want to visit the forum, where some discussion will probably be taking place about favorite picture books. See you there!
