MemberBooks I am looking for (I’ll post again with more as I think of them…):
Archives of Anthropos by John White – ESPECIALLY Gaal the Conqueror, because my uncle has an incomplete set, but I’ll trade for anything ’cause I don’t own any myself.
The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis – Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, That Hideous Strength
Auralia’s Colors by Jeffrey Overstreet (don’t know titles, just know I want to read)
The Pilgrim’s Regress by C.S. Lewis
anything by Wayne Thomas Batson except bk1 of Door Within (already own)
Of Other Worlds and other essays by Lewis (I don’t know for certain the title of that – the idea is that it’s a book of essays by C.S. Lewis with the piece ‘Of Other Worlds’ in it. Also want a book of essays with Lewis’ comments on LotR or the Hobbit (I forget which it was))
Restorer trilogy by Sharon Hinck
Save the Cat! by Blake Snyder
Save the Cat! Strikes Back by Blake Snyder
Story by Robert McKee
pretty much anything screenwriting or novelwriting related – shoot me titles and I’ll tell you yes or no. (I own things like Elements of Style already)This is a long shot…anyone have any piano books they want to trade? Particularly film scores…yes, long shot.

Star Wars piano books. Anything and everything. Even Easy Piano and the ‘Original Film Score Edition’ sheet music. Individual pieces as well as full books. Any episode or group of episodes or edition (out of print even!) ’cause if I can’t use it, I know people who I could give it to. (I hang out with musical film score fans…
)
Lord of the Rings piano books – not the Easy Piano edition, I’m looking for The Two Towers and The Return of the King.
If in doubt, give me the ISBN and I’ll look it up.
UP (the Pixar movie!)
If you happen to have anything else film score related, just shoot me the ISBN and I’ll see if it’s something I or my sister or any of our friends would play. We devour piano books.
In general, advanced piano music. When I say advanced, I mean level 6 and beyond level 6 of the Alfred Basic teaching series.
We already own a ton of classical, so just anything else would be considered. Again, the ISBN numbers really help because I can look them up on sheetmusicplus and take a look inside the books there.
I like ‘new classical’ – instrumental classical-like music by modern composers. But I’ll consider anything. Also, another long shot, the violin books for Star Wars (anything) and Lord of the Rings (anything). Got a friend who plays violin and would be thrilled to death to be able to play her favorite music on it.

MemberSorry, Wyatt, all my Jules Verne books aren’t mine – they’re on permanent loan from my uncle. So I can’t trade them.
Try googling Project Gutenburg, though, for free ebooks of out-of-copyright books.
Melody Kondrael
MemberThere’s a garage sale a few blocks down that, according to my mom, had ‘like three copies of A Christmas Carol’. Anyone want me to bike down tomorrow morning and pick one up? (we’re pretty sure they’ll still be there by tomorrow morning) I believe she also said that there were Boxcar children books, multiple copies of Julie of the Wolves, other kids books like that (for people who have younger siblings.
)
Melody Kondrael
MemberAhh. I don’t have any kind of website.
Oh well.
That’s cool that it worked out for you!
That’s all right on the Last Heir. You said you liked thrillers – it’s not really that. I know the sister of the girl who wrote it; she told me about the books her family likes, and they are more like The Last Heir – based more in politics than in action.
Melody Kondrael
MemberI might be interested in parting with my copy of the sci-fi The Last Heir. It’s by Shannon McDermott. (self-published by her family’s publishing
company)
I didn’t care for it as much because the action moved through politics of the planets she created most of the time – not so many space battles. It’s my personality.
I can find her website for you (or you could google for it) where you could read sample chapters. It’s like new. I paid…what was it? $14 or something. I don’t recall. I bought it because I know her sister and because I enjoy Shannon’s short stories she puts in SALT magazine. (mystery funny stories) I was planning on re-reading it, though, before putting it up. I only read it once or twice, again, because the story just didn’t catch me as much and I hadn’t had a lot of time to read at the time.
Wow, how do you get books to review from publishers? I have often wondered that. (I have heard of Booksneeze but haven’t signed up yet)
Melody Kondrael
MemberI am very interested in that Trophy Chase trilogy, C Triebold! I also would be interested in The Chosen Ones – I think that my younger brother Vivace would enjoy reading it.
What kinds of books are you looking for? Or maybe something knitted?Alassiel, I haven’t (and probably won’t) read anything else by this author, but my personal issue with it was that I had trouble identifying with the characters. I don’t remember how fast it moved; I only read it once. But…I want to read it again before swapping, and it’s probably worth more than one book.

Dale Evans Rogers – they are autobiographical books, and I actually have one more I’ll trade after I read it, Angel Unaware (about her daughter with down syndrome who lived to the age of 2). She was the wife of Roy Rogers, movie cowboy from the 40’s and 50’s. I used to be really into old Westerns and enjoyed reading her books. They are Christian.
I have a friend of mine possibly interested in them, though (as of about 24 hours ago), so I gotta check with her before I let them go on here.
I’m working on a list of books I’m looking for. I’m having trouble thinking, though!
Sometimes I just see a book and say ‘oh, I want that!’ and don’t have it in mind beforehand.
I’m more of a genre reader (fantasy, sci-fi, good historical when I can find it…).
I’ll be off and on all day. Got a job-knitting project I have to do and I want to play with my new knitting machine.
(hey, Alyosha, want a reversible hat off my new knitting machine once I get used to the machine…? perhaps that fits your definition of a toque?) Wish I could think of any other books I could trade, but my shelf is pretty small due to the fact that I share books with three siblings, and more than half of them aren’t even ours; they’re on permanent loan from my uncle.
Anyone else do handicrafts of any sort? I knit, crochet, dye yarn & fluff, do the occasional bit of bookbinding… (have to clean more bookboard)
Melody Kondrael
MemberOkay, you’re in Canada, Alyosha? Just checking because if you happened to live in some far off country, it might be too expensive to ship things…
Define: ‘tuque’ (I think you mean ‘toque’ but either way, it’s not really in my vocabulary.
Just seen it on some hat patterns every once in a while…) I am familiar with beanies, slouchy hats, berets, tams, etc, but not toques.
I’m very familiar with fingerless gloves. There are about 10 different styles. Describe what you mean. (feel free to take this to PM, I just have too many tabs open to do it myself right now…
) I’m interested in the Hobbit (I don’t own it ::gasp:
, DragonSpell, The Giver (I’ll take a risk on ‘disturbing’ – the reviews on CBD made it sound like it’s probably appropriate for my maturity level and necessary to the story.
), and….what is the reading level of Lyddie and the two about the Swedish immigrant family? Age appropriateness, so to speak? (i.e. are they ages 8-12 books or teenager-level or adult-level?) And then we can discuss what to trade for…
I live in Iowa, btw, if you need to check shipping costs. Funny, we must read a bunch of the same types of books.
I’ve read that Von Trapp family book; back when I had ILL.
I also read some of those Orphan Train ones, and I already have L.M. Montgomery books and many classics along the lines of Little Women.
(I also use the Gutenburg project for ebooks of classics) “The New Treasure Seekers” – is that by E. Nesbit? I think you might be able to download that as an ebook from gutenburg.org, but you’d have to check…I did see a bunch of her books on there, though I only read a couple.
Alassiel, actually, do check with your sister on the Sword Bearer! My uncle owns 5 out of 6 of those books, and while I don’t like them as much as Narnia or LotR (what could beat those?!?!?) they were still good. He likes them so much he won’t let me borrow his copies permanently, unlike many of his other childhood books… so I would be interested in the Sword Bearer.
Interested in anything I’ve got?
Melody Kondrael
MemberHey, someone recommended the Myst books to me just yesterday on a Christian fantasy writers forum. But…….my dad doesn’t like Myst, last I checked. I could double-check, though.
How is it that we voracious readers always end up with multiple copies of at least one book?
Hmm, if we all had wishlists, then perhaps if someone saw a copy of a book someone wanted at a thrift shop or yard sale, then we could buy it to trade! So, like, we’d all have our own post in the thread, and we’d keep it edited with what books we have and what books we are looking for.
What d’ya all think?
Melody Kondrael
MemberBooks I have:
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis – mass market paperback ed, somehow we ended up with three copies through sharp watches at garage sales to replace broken books in our Narnia set…anyway, since one copy was falling apart, I’m trading one of the good ones.
Slightly creased cover – lays flat but looks creased. Tight binding, barely read. Good condition. Starlight Animal Rescue bk 2 – Mad Dog by Dandi Daley Mackall – like new. Amanda Lynn Kondrael’s book. (that’s her username, it’s my sister)
Black Gold by Marguerite Henry – like new. Amanda Lynn Kondrael’s book. (she just grew out of these books shortly after receiving them for birthday/Christmas presents)
San Domingo, the Medicine Hat Stallion by Marguerite Henry – like new. A.L.M’s.
Mandie: Her College Days Book One – New Horizons by Lois Gladys Leppard – essentially like new, very little wear on top edge. ALM’s
In the Hands of the Potter by Dale Evans Rogers with Les Stobbe – hardback with dust jacket, has a nametag from previous owner on first page, and a poem taped under it. A few pages in the middle are rumpled slightly as if a bit of water was spilled on them. (I really don’t know – it did not happen while I owned it) Overall in very good to excellent condition.
Rainbow on a Hard Trail, Dale Evans Rogers: Her Story of Life and Love – hardback with dust jacket, nametag from previous owner on first page, otherwise like new. (I used to be big into Roy Rogers and Dale Evans; seems I ought to have a couple more of their books but don’t remember where I put them)
At Home In Mitford by Jan Karon – okay to good condition. I just bought this used about six weeks ago, and after flipping through it, decided it was not something I’d be interested in reading!
Previous owner’s name & bookplate in front. Creased, nearly cracked binding after about 90 pages – rest of book sound. As far as I saw, the pages were clean. Front cover and first pages look like there was a water spillage…? This book will still stand a lot of reading, though. I tried to describe the books to the best of my ability.
Also, I have a excellent one-volume of The Dragon King Trilogy which after I re-read, I’ll consider putting up for trade. I’d have to be coerced with fantasy book(s), tho, ’cause I bought this one from amazon a couple months ago and just didn’t end up enjoying it as much as some of the other fantasy books on my shelf. As I recall, it’s pretty sound, but the binding has external crease marks and is not very square – comes of being such a thick book. (about 3″ thick) But as I said, that one I’m more loathe to trade in hopes that someday I’ll come to like it.
Melody Kondrael
MemberI’ll post the books I have in a moment.
Thank you, Jordan!
I have considered BookMooch and PBS, but the problem is – my income is very variable so I can’t always be certain I’ll have enough stamps to ship a book if I have 10 books on at a time! (plus, I only found 4 on my shelf and 4 on my sister’s to trade…most of the books we have are not ours, but on long-term loan from my uncle who was homeschooled and had a ton of nice books) So with a one-on-one trade, I can ensure that I’ll always have shipping money by only agreeing to trades when I have money to ship.
What is “The Giver”? Is it by Lois Lowry? (a quick CBD search brought it up) Can you tell me anything about content, age level, etc?
As to what I can knit & crochet: I can make nearly anything. I have a sample knitting job, so I have to make custom things out around that (i.e. nights and weekends and whenever I don’t have a project–but I knit fast anyway). The book-to-knitting ratio would depend on what you want and how big the book is.
I have lots of machine washable yarn on hand, of many colors. I can get patterns off the internet – tell me what you want and I’ll present options. I have photos of my work–often I can duplicate something I’ve made before (usually in different colors, though, as I tend not to have more of a particular color of yarn)I’m interested in lots of fantasy, sci-fi, and historical, as well as books on novel and screenwriting. This thread here (link) describes what kinds of books I’m allowed to put on my shelf. Note: bad language isn’t so much of a problem as long as it’s something I can black out.
Specifically….ummm… Wayne Thomas Batson books, anything from the Binding of the Blade series, Auralia’s Colors, hehe, you get the picture. Popular Christian fantasy books which not many people are likely to want to part with their copies of! But who knows, maybe someone didn’t care for a book, or got two copies for Christmas? Also, if someone has attempted to read a History of Middle-earth book and couldn’t get through it, I love those and don’t own anything except Unfinished Tales and the Silmarillion (and LotR, of course). Save the Cat! is also on my list, for any screenwriters who’ve moved past that.

But name whatever you have, I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s wanting to trade books.

MemberTreasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson – 232 pages
Review: I keep getting caught up in reading these old books instead of the two I meant to read next (LotR and Beyond the Summerland).
Oh well… Anyway, I’ve never seen any Treasure Island films or read any abridgements. So I decided to try.
Interesting (kind of short) pirate story.
Suitable for a 10yo, I suppose. Memorable characters, original events, easy to follow plot. No swearing. No character arcs, unfortunately, it’s more like one of those adventure stories with no real point. Still, if you want to read one of the original pirate tales – this would be a good one.
Running total – 1427 pages.
Melody Kondrael
MemberThe Black Arrow by Robert Louis Stevenson – 272 pages
Review: This is an interesting read of the War of the Roses. I enjoyed the adventure & chivalry aspects, as well as the historical aspects. You have to read it all the way through and not be put off by the MC’s quest for revenge, though.
It does have a good ending. 923 + 272 =
1195 pagesMelody Kondrael
MemberRedwall – 351 pages
Review: Proofread this for Vivace Kondrael (that’s his username, I need to get into his account soon to post his books…). Sorry, not going to let him read it. I would’ve except for the slightly wierd theology (for being a monastary, they sure are not Christian) and the fact that they kept using bad language.
Too bad, Brian Jacques has a good touch for memorable characters and an interesting plot.Junior Classics – volume 7, adventures of courage and heroism – 572 pages
Review: Very interesting! I wish they would reprint this. I got it off Gutenburg (randomly, actually, found it while looking for something else) and then found a page count on Amazon (just barely, it seems to be only somewhat in print) Lamplighter should get this one, this is a really interesting book.
Full of short stories of courage and heroism, as the title says. Need to watch the theology a bit (it’s not all conservative Protestant/Anabaptist) but no bad language and no gore.
Originally intended for a 10-14yo, I think, but it was very interesting even to me, and the reading level is on par with any teenage book written now. I love the old books, they’re written so much better.
Running total: 923
Next up – Beyond the Summerland and Lord of the Rings.
