Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer, 337 pages.

Review: good book. Some language though, and a couple of inappropriate comments. That’s my only complaint. But overall, good story. The main character said this line, which I thought was really good: “Do people ever realize how precious life is?”

Thirteen Days to Midnight, by Patrick Carman – 296 pages

REVIEW: I wouldn’t read this book if I were you. It has foul language, inappropriate comments, and a plot line that goes down the tubes. The only thing cool about it was the cover…

How to Train Your Dragon (Book 1), by Cressida Cowell – 214 pages

Running Total: 3, 370 pages (officially, I feel behind… lol).

REVIEW: When I first saw the movie How to Train Your Dragon, I immediately fell in love with it. The plot line was (surprisingly) great, the characters were cool, the music was beautiful, and I left the theater wishing I had a dragon. (lol). So, of course, I wanted to read the book. I got it off of Amazon, and read it in (about) 24-hours, which is AMAZING for me. Honestly, the book was fine, but the movie was so different, it was almost a disappointment. (I really liked the plot of the movie better.) So, if you read the book, try not to compare it to the movie. Let it stand by itself.

Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen – 181 pages

    Running Total: 3,156

REVIEW: Honestly, this book is very “lukewarm” to me. It’s not like I didn’t like it, but I didn’t “love it” either… so, I guess I recommend it, but I don’t know if I’d read it again.

Nanny McPhee: The Collected Tales of Nurse Matilda, by Christianna Brand – 382 pages

    Running Total: 2,975

REVIEW: I am a huge fan of the movie (I have no idea why… lol.) so I wanted to read the book. The book is a good mix between the books Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland. Sometimes it was hard to follow, sometimes it was funny, and sometimes I wondered, “Why am I reading this?” It is seriously nothing like the movie. So, I think this is one of the first times that I liked the movie more than the book. There was one line I really liked from the book. The children had been laughing at someone/something, and Nurse Matilda “said to them – quietly – ‘Sometimes what amuses us is rude and hurtful to others: isn’t it?’ ” (page 233)… That really made me see that there are things that are genuinely “funny”, and then there are some things that our culture says is “funny”, but in reality, shouldn’t be. I wish more people would realize that. So, overall, I think the book is a keeper, but I don’t know if I would reread it.
