One day, Benjamin finds his dog, Whiskers, is a trick dog! When the Y.M.C.A. drive falls short of its quota, the boys of the neighborhood get together and put on a circus with Whiskers and Jazbo, Benjamin’s friend’s bulldog. After the show, a stranger offers Benjamin twenty-five dollars for Whiskers and says he’ll come back at five-thirty. The stranger doesn’t show up and the next morning, Whiskers is gone! Will Benjamin ever see Whiskers again?
A pretty good book. A couple bad words, though. This probably isn’t one of my favorite Marguerite Henry’s, but it’s still pretty good. Unfortunately, this book is out of print and is only available used from Amazon.

Milo hates to do anything. Wherever he is, he is always wishing to be somewhere else. Then one day, he finds a box with a tollbooth inside. He gets out his toy car that he can ride in and drives through, deposits his coins and picks a spot on the map at random. Milo is not in his room anymore, but in the city of Dictionopolis, where words are in high esteem. Joined by Tok, the Watchdog whose watch only says “tik”; and the Humbug, a giant insect, he sets out on a quest to rescue the princesses Reason and Rhyme from their captors in Mountains of Ignorance.
I love this book. The story is witty and humorous. Word plays abound, which makes it hard to read aloud, but all in all, a great story.

When a shaggy man asks Dorothy the way to Butterfield, she walks with him and shows him the way. But then she finds she’s lost, as there suddenly are about seventeen roads leading from the place she and the shaggy man are. Dorothy, Toto, and the shaggy man take a road and eventually meet Pollychrome, the Rainbow’s daughter and Button-Bright. The five set out to get to Oz and celebrate Ozma’s birthday.
The first Oz book with the shaggy man. At Ozma’s birthday, there are many different characters, including Queen Zixi of Ix, King Bud and Princess Fluff, the Queen of Ev and her children. This is probably not one of my favorites, but it’s still a good book.

The only red hen in the man’s henhouse has frozen her toes off. The man’s boss advices him to kill the hen, but the man is very attached to her. He decides to keep the hen. Unfortunately, the red hen is repeatedly mobbed by the other hens. Her only protector is a large black dog who even steals eggs for her. But the man doesn’t trust the dog. He tries to lose it in the city. But the dog has appointed himself to protect the red hen, his only companion.
This is a very heart-warming story. It’s more about the hen and the dog than the man, so the man doesn’t really have a name. Not quite as good as some other books by DeJong, but still enjoyable. I very much recommend this book.

Miss Polly Harrington receives a letter from Jerimiah O. White saying that her brother-in-law, Reverend John Whittier, died two weeks ago and would she take his only child, Pollyanna? Miss Polly feels that it is her duty, so she consents. Pollyanna arrives with the “glad-game” and after she is run over by a automobile and the doctors say she can never use her legs again, nearly the whole town starts playing the glad-game.
A good book! It has very well portrayed characters. I like it very much.
