I spend enough time staring at computer screens as it is, I think I prefer to read a normal book. Besides, a computer doesn’t have that wonderful book feel to it.

    Let’s see. I’ve read:

Sherlock Holmes (all of them, I think)

    To Kill a Mockingbird

    The Scarlet Pimpernel

    A Tale of Two Cities

    Ivanhoe

    LotR

    Uncle Tom’s Cabin

    Black Beauty

Around the World in Eighty Days

    The Jungle

    The Red Badge of Courage

    Up From Slavery

I enjoy almost everything I read, so I liked most of these pretty well.

Dragonspell, by Donita Paul- 334 pages

I was reminded again how much I love Dar. Gymn is so cute! I think he is my favorite of all Kale’s dragons. The final scene with Risto is hysterically funny.

Yeah, Door Within would make a good movie. I heard there was someone interested, but I don’t know what happened with that.

I’ve seen some of the Redwall cartoons and didn’t like them much. Interestingly enough, they are what got me into the books. My dad had bought Redwall at B & N and said I might like it. However, if you’ve read the paperback versions, you might know that there is basically no descriptions on them. All I knew is that the book was about mice who lived in an Abbey, therefore I decided it didn’t sound all that interesting. A while later, I was at a friend’s b-day party and saw the Redwall cartoon, liked it, went home and read the book. Now I’m a crazy fan.

Our library started a special teen program last year. This year’s raffle prizes are a digital camera, a $100 Visa gift card, and some other electronic item I can’t remember. I don’t think there’s any other prizes except the raffle.

For the younger kids, they get a coupon for every book or 50 pages that they read. There are 20 coupons, and after that you just earn raffle tickets. It works pretty well actually. I didn’t realize my library had a good program until I heard about yours.

I’ve read Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. It’s a good book. Speaking of which, I have it on my shelf and have been meaning to re-read it.

They give out coupons to local businesses for things like a cookie or a piece of pizza, and they do a raffle drawing for various prizes at the end of the summer. We don’t really get any participants over 5th grade, but for some reason most of the more popular books are still out over the entire summer. Most of the real participants are the preschool kids whose parents read them stacks of books.

    Read aloud to siblings:

The Cat Who Wished to be a Man, by Lloyd Alexander- 127 pages

Alexander’s books are alot of fun to read aloud, especially when you end up laughing so hard you can’t read. That didn’t happen in this book, but it has with some of his other works.

Next time I’m at the library I’m going to check it out. Hopefully that will be before the summer reading program there starts and all the shelves are empty…

I much prefer the old Pride and Prejudice. I’ve only read half the book, but the quality of the acting, script, etc. seems much better in the old one.

I’ve heard of I Am David, but I don’t remember where. What is it about?

I don’t really remember. I watched it a while ago, but I remember thinking it was really stupid and trying to explain to my siblings watching with me that it wasn’t really that bad, it was just the movie. I don’t think I was very convincing.
