MemberI prefer carpet to wood floor, for the sole reason that carpet is more comfortable for grabbing a book at random, plopping on the floor, and reading.
Jordan
MemberWell, I always thought it was a bit more suspicious when somebody showed up out of the blue with a pile of books, instead of building up a little at a time.

Or you never enter them because you already own the good prizes and the rest are lame books you don’t care about.
Jordan
MemberOoh boy!
My dream library would be the entire third floor of my house (I’d live and sleep on the other two floors). It would be reached through a winding secret passage hidden behind something interesting on the second floor. Abridged books would be banned, and the first books admitted would be anything I happen to be carrying when I enter. (Too many favorites to pick some firsts!)

Membermonkeygal693, go here for the beaded dragon bookmark contests: http://dragonbloggin.blogspot.com/
I don’t think she’s running one of those contests right now, but they do pop up with some amount of regularity.

MemberUm… Tom Sawyer never wrote anything…
I definitely have a life and hobby besides reading. But I do read a lot more than most of my friends.
Never slept with a book, and generally I don’t take them with me unless I really know I’ll have time to red them. Although when my family goes on vacation, beware! I usually bring about three times more than I’ll actually read, and once I read straight through The Complete Sherlock Holmes on one long vacation trip. I also did Tears of a Dragon for the first time all in one drive home from vacation (Circles of Seven on the way there.)
And I wanted to name our dog Taylaminkadot when we got her, but my mom vetoed it.

MemberPart of the reason for recording the books is to have a constant stream of banter about the books read, but it also helps us keep tabs on anybody who might be cheating. (i.e. if somebody posts 20 long books per day) (not insinuating anything about you guys!)

Member* joins Alassiel in being off-topic* I was one of the winners, too.
Jordan
MemberJust for that, you might gain that title, free of charge!
Jordan
MemberI just checked, and I can create a custom title, so if somebody wants to make a read-off or something, I’m willing to give out a custom title or two as prizes.

MemberWow! I forgot a lot of things…
Let’s see… I have no favorite fantasy novel, but at one point I had thought that Frodo would be suitable for a firstborn son.
I also insert random book quotes into conversation. Like Alassiel, I plan on owning a house with a large room devoted to books, or maybe several, or how about the whole second floor…

MemberHm. I wonder if this forum will let me create a tagline for a user. That’d be fun!
I’m off to see if I can make a sub-forum of the Games board for reading groups.
Jordan
MemberIf you’d like to start a reading group around here, go ahead. That’s perfectly fine with me! Do you think we might need a new board for reading groups? (Anybody speak up on this)
The problem with doing more than one Read-a-Thon per year is that most of the “draw” comes from prizes. There’s nothing that says that when Christmas Break comes around we can’t all just have fun seeing who can read the most, though. If you want to start it, go for it. Put it in the Games board, though. The Read-a-Thon board is really for “official” Read-a-Thons.
Jordan
MemberLoL, and the next Read-a-Thon won’t be until next summer… And you are already planning which books to read?

We might announce it earlier for ’09, though.
