MemberSweeney Todd is not some R-rated horror flick; it’s a complex, thought-provoking musical/opera (I forget what it’s officially classified as) that unfortunately happens to have a lot of blood.

[/Alyosha defending a movie she actually hasn’t seen yet but loves the stage version and music of]
He says he wants to stay true to the book’s essence…
But yeah, ditto, I hope Wonderland doesn’t turn out too creepy and adult. It’s supposed to be a kids’ story…
Alyosha
MemberYes. Perhaps we should.
We could at least out it in our signatures, or something.

(Except I don’t think anyone here likes abridged books to begin with…ah well.)
Are there any TTS movies worth watching? I expect there are about half a million adaptions but I haven’t seen any of them.

MemberIt’s going to be a mix of live-action and whatsitcalled, motion capture thingummy? (Oh how brilliant Alyosha sounds). Tim Burton is directing. I haven’t seen much else about it.

MemberHrm…drunk guy, bloated corpse…sounds like an interesting bit of fanfiction.
*raises eyebrow*Which reminds me that I still need to read Huckleberry Finn…
Alyosha
MemberUntil you change it; then it changes all of them. So yeah, all the same.

MemberWell, we could always start another topic for melancholy books (indeed, melancholy sounds so much nicer than just ‘sad,’ doesn’t it?) and thus help rid the world of topics that are irrelevant to their titles.

…Or something like that.
Yes, I know what you mean about crying over the beauty of something.

MemberClick on your name at the top left, and then click on ‘edit this information’ and there should be a box that says Signature there. Er–is that what you mean?

MemberI love the ‘Careful, or you’ll end up in my novel’ thingummy…I want one.

I have a shirt that says “There’s no such thing as too many books” but that’s about all…
The library and the bookstore sell nice cloth bags with names of authors all over them, but in some attempt at patriotism they’re all Canadian people who I’ve never heard of before. Sigh.
Alyosha
MemberOr we could change the topic into a READ EMBER! campaign.

*waves a banner enthusiastically*
Sad and dreary books? I can’t think of any…Dreary is bad, but sad is good.
(Sometimes.)
Alyosha
MemberThe Door Within might be interesting… I’m definitely NOT puristic about those books and would be looking forward to seeing how they were changed, sad to say.

A Redwall movie, wow. Wonder how that will turn out? I’d be quite happy if they scrapped the animals and just made all the characters human. *ducks flying objects*
I think my siblings watched the Redwall cartoons and liked them. I should get them out of the library sometime.
*still looking forward to Alice in Wonderland*

MemberRabbit Hill! I haven’t read that since I was Young and Forgetful. I always thought of it as a sort of kids’ version of Watership Down…ought to reread.
Christy was alright–my favourite part about it was that poem about the wind that was used throughout the book.

Currently reading and muchly enjoying: The House of the Scorpion

MemberElizabeth Enright! Er…right? (I need to read that…the Melendys books are really good).
The Story Girl

MemberWestley?
I liked him quite a lot while he was the D.P.R/Man in the Mask/whatever–as himself he was not quite as interesting.
Inigo Montoya is awesome.

House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer (anyone read that?) would make a good movie…or maybe it’s just that with some books, one can see them played out so clearly in one’s head.
Alyosha
MemberBut “lunar-powered” has such a nice ring to it… *sigh*
It’s not really sad or dark. But then…I read a lot of sad and dark books so perhaps I can’t judge properly.
Maybe it’s literally dark. But not sad.
I signed up for the library reading program every year when I was younger, and somehow forgot all about it within the first three weeks.
