Herb Garble, Mrs. Underdunk’s brother, is traveling with Boomschmidt’s circus, where he is exhibiting what he claims are live Martians. Freddy and the gang are sure something’s wrong, and while they are trying to figure out how to expose the Martians without hurting Mr. Boom’s reputation, the rats show up again. It’s packed full of fun, adventure, and plenty of the circus animals.
This is a pretty good Freddy book. Simon’s back, of course, and he’s not my favorite character. Although, since he’s the badguy, he’s not supposed to be your favorite character. Anyway, the rabbits’ club, The Horribles, is in this one, and eventually some real Martians come in their flying saucer. The Martians play a big part in Freddy and the Baseball Team from Mars, and also Freddy and the Flying Saucer Plans.

Squeak-Squeak the Martian disappears from Mr. Boomschimdt’s circus. Freddy the pig is called in to find him, but even he isn’t expecting that the other Martians don’t want him to help. In disguise as an old man, Mr. Arquebus, Freddy organizes a Martian baseball team. But when Mr. Anderson, a.k.a. Mr. Eha (the dangerous house haunting real estate man of Freddy Goes Camping fame), shows up at the games, Freddy knows something’s up.
I loved this Freddy book and couldn’t put it down. Absolutely hilarious! Freddy gets to be in disguise for almost the whole story. The baseball games are funny, too. Freddy uses his favorite Irish woman disguise, as he always does in the best Freddy books. The A. B. I. returns, and that usually spells a good Freddy mystery.

Freddy and Jinx have just gotten home from their trip and are wondering why the people are scowling at them. Mrs. Peppercorn, a friend in many Freddy books, explains that that there has been a crime wave through Centerboro. Windows smashed, houses broken into, and gardens ruined! Also, there are animal tracks, clearly showing that animals were the culprits, and the blame has fallen to the Bean animals! Money is demanded to be left in a certain place, where a headless horseman picks it up at night. Dodging to keep out of jail, Freddy, with the help of friends and a very special dragon, sets out to bring justice to the real thieves.
A very enjoyable read. Walter R. Brooks has the ability to develop a good and exciting plot. Samuel Jackson, also in Freddy and the Flying Saucer Plans, enters into this hilarious Freddy story.

There’s trouble at the Bean farm! Mr. Bismuth and his family have moved in. They’re doing a lot of damage but the Beans can’t throw them out because Mrs. Bismuth is Mrs. Bean’s cousin! While that’s going on, Uncle Ben completes his space ship and, along with Freddy the pig, Georgie the dog, Jinx the cat, Charles the rooster, and Mrs. Peppercorn, they set out on a trip to Mars. Then, when Mrs. Peppercorn accidentally throws them off course, they’re knocked off to a strange planet inhabited by dangerous Martians!
Very enjoyable! Mrs. Peppercorn is also in other books, such as Freddy and the Dragon, and Freddy and the Baseball Team from Mars.

When Jerry the rhinoceros comes all the way from Virginia to ask Freddy’s advice, Freddy knows something is up! And something is up. Mr. Boomschmidt, the circus owner, is running out of money! Things get so bad that the animals have to be sold or sent into the country on their own. And when Leo the lion disappears, Freddy, with the help of a few friends, set out to save the day!
Another enjoyable book in the Freddy series. Though there is a pied piper part, the book is mainly based on helping Mr. Boom.
