MemberI know! What’s with that, msfelfbjf? I’m suspicious…
Pip
MemberHmm. I thought I heard somewhere that the KoA was the first one…much to my chagrin, I soon found out it wasn’t!!! *is hacked off*
Pip
MemberOh Jordan, a lit. test? That’s my dream come true!
Yes, Tolkien’s stuff is very good…we have a poetry book by Lewis, but I haven’t peeped inside yet. Might be OK.
My family and I have gotten into the groove of, after we read a few verses outta Proverbs (Dad), Mom reads a poem. We’re working tho’ Longfellow (we call him Henry WODSworth LongFELLER), and it’s glorious! The best word pictures I’ve come across in a very long time.
Pip
MemberI don’t even remember the end. What happened?
Yeah, I only kept reading because there seemed to be an intelligence in her characters that I haven’t found in other books. I won’t get them, though…is The Thief any better?
Pip
MemberOkay, well every time Oswald (and I don’t even like the name!) said something against girls, I shuddered. I think that even if it WAS satire, it was crass, poorly written and encouraged boys to think badly of their female companions. Man, I sound really dumb…but anyway, I just didn’t think it was necessary! Alice was loverly, I loved her the best but my goodness! “ALMOST as good as a boy”? It drove me NUTS!!!!!!
Perhaps the reason Nesbit was a feminest was because of children like Oswald. If they truly were that bad, I almost don’t blame her!
Pip
MemberI didn’t like that book. Too slow!
Pip
MemberRight, see, it’s almost a satire of prejudice. You just have to have the right kind of sense of humor to appreciate it.
Bleck, jordan!
Pip
MemberDoes this mean an unpublished book or story by you counts in the read-a-thon?
Pip
MemberHe’s weird!

MemberI hated the Story of the Treasure Seekers and it’s sequel, it was almost prejudiced against females as being wimpy, skimpy, and altogether inferior! Railway Children stinks, but sofar in my other readings by her, FC&It has been the best one. I just recently found out that it’s actually a trilogy, like y’all have been saying (I’ve only discovered this discussion today), so I need to check into it.
Pip
MemberThank you.

I’m thinking about rereading Gone-Away Lake, cause that book had such a feel-goody tone.
Pip
MemberOoh, yeah, my copy of The Illiad smells dreadful! Getting back on topic with a pun, I’d never want to reread it!
Pip
MemberSeries are nice to reread, books like Narnia and LotR have so much stuffins in ’em, a second glance is refreshing.
I love the feeling of curling up with an old friend.
Off-Topic: Does anyone notice how some books smell nice? I have this one, The Minstrel and the Dragon Pup, that’s a little hardcover book but smells heavenly inside. Some paperbacks do, too, and bookstores. Libraries don’t really have a smell, and if they do, it’s rother stinky!
Pip
MemberI think we’d all appreciate it if no one went into hiding until the day before the Read-a-Thon ends, and then surprise us with a million pages. We all need a chance to win, and we need to be fair.
