MemberI…was very bamboozled by LS! The autobio didn’t make any sense. I’ve read the entire Series of U.E., and liked them well enough. They’re unique, that’s for sure! I guess that’s why they’re so popular. Haven’t been able to get poor Beatrice yet; I liked the little notes about her in the beginning. By the way, Google Lemony Snicket and there’s actually a PICTURE of him on there!
Pip
MemberMaybe they thought the second one was too boring to print in rockin’ colors!
Pip
MemberOh yeah, I read those! Captains Courageous ddin’t strike my fancy, except for the picture about the bratty boy! I liked the old-timey movie better.
Mutiny on the Bounty…hmm. Well, it’s neat. It makes ya wanna go to Tahiti! But I’ll warn you, it’s graphic in some parts. The movie fell off the band-wagon on this ‘un, because they hardly showed flogging scenes and the book went all out with ’em, which is the reason why I got them. I love the concept of suffering for Christ, so even if the guys aren’t Christians I get as close to S.F.C. as I can! This includes reading books with numerous whippings.
Pip
MemberYeah, that’s my version. Are the paperbacks printed in colored ink? Cause I think the hardback editions are. That’s a neat-o feature!
Pip
MemberIt is, glorious!
Pip
MemberThanks! :lol:
I’ve never read Watership Down, but it’s sitting on me shelf!
Pip
MemberPatience Goodspeed was terrible! The only character worth liking got killed off! I was SO mad about that…I feel affection for tall, thin guys with thick hair and long pointy noses!
Pip
MemberI don’t much like to reread books, as there’re so many books out there to discover! I just like having books to look back on choice parts, to fondle, and to brag about how many I’ve managed to cram into my room, which is now about 600!
Pip
MemberRebekah, you must be a mercy person. I’m afraid I’m not much of one! I would dote upon the battles. Funny how that works.

(How do you get a laughing smiley?)
Pip
MemberI’ve only read a few of the V.H. books, and out of order, so I didn’t get it. Anyone like the Paddington books? I LOVE them!
Pip
MemberYeah, Dad always gets revved up about seafaring tales. By the way, anybody come across any in their school? Seafaring tales, I mean. I’ve read Marial of Redwall, and Mutiny on the Bounty, and Treasure Island, so what else is out thar?
Pip
MemberHey, I suffered through Eldest! I personally liked Eragon; see my last post on this thread, C. T., it’ll answer your questions as concerns Pip.
Pip
MemberWe’ve read tons and tons of books in the past, including all but the last Prydain Chronicles, but I’m waiting till my siblings are older to read the Redwall books (one of them is a bit squeamish when it comes to bloody battles and the like!).
That’s funny, Owan; I keep a list of all the books I’ve read (besides to-read ones hanging around all over the place!) and whenever I finish hearing a book read to me, I put it down as read, because my mind is still processing the info, even if my eyes are elsewhere.
Alassiel, we read all sorts of books for school! “How’s Inky” by Campbell, “Carry on, Mr. Bowditch” is a biggy in many home-education programs, “The Tooth-paste Millionaire” was actually in my younger siblings’ program…Plus extra-curiccular junk like library stuff, to-read lists, endless titles of “Oh, you should read THIS!!!” papers and etc.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that every book we read for homeschool is warm and fuzzy, and I’m not saying I don’t like certain things about homeschool (not as many benefits, not as many ministry opportunities, things like that), and indeed, some books I’ve had to read were real crummy! But if I had to choose, I’d homeschool all the way!
Pip
MemberQuick little off-topic thingy: Which characters in Eragon broke the rules? Cause I can’t honestly remember any.

Member“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Had scrambled eggs for breakfast again.”
~~~For Laughing Out Loud, a poetry book.
(Does that count?)
