MemberWeeeell, I’d read some outta it a long time ago but then the soupy library just had to have it back, so I forgot all the things I’d read. Now, I’ve started back…and I’ve only gotten thro’ the first chapter! Stevenson isn’t my fave author.
Has anyone ever read anything by Rafael Sabatini? As his name suggests, he writes pirate stories and I’m thinking about looking into some of them.
Ooh, and I’ve started reading “The Last Dragon”…ok guys, that book is an official runner-up for Pip’s Shelf of Favorites!!!!!!!

MemberYou’re kidding. Really???
I read the series…and have mixed feelings. I loved the start of the first book, it was very pleasant. The second and third book were way over my head technology-wise, and the fourth somewhat rocked. The poetry was awesome, as good as Longfeller. I didn’t like Billy, I loved Walter, Bonnie was ok, Professor Hamilton rocked and Hambone stole the show!
But the main thing that bothered me while reading these books was that the kids remained modern, unlike the Door Within where Aidan and the rest slipped into their surroundings considerably better. (The fourth book in the DIOM might be an exception to this disgruntled impression o’ mine.) Anyway, Billy would be like “Rockin’ sword, dude!”
“Step back, cur, or I shall have thine head!” said the dark man, flashing his sword over Billy’s hair.
“Ok, no prob, knight-feller. Peace out!!!”
You git the idear.

MemberBlecky! I tried to start the first in the series and didn’t find it worth my time!

MemberHey jordan, once the Read-a-Thon is done, are we still allowed to participate in the discussions and start Topics and such? In other words, are we still members after August 31?
Pip
MemberYou’re WHO???!!!???
Pip
MemberWhy, thanx!
I personally wouldn’t want to read it, but it’s up for you to decide. (Although it seems that you’d have a hard time gleaning goodness outta that plot!) And I discovered that I actually have seen them in Wal-Mart before.
Pip
MemberIsn’t it, though?
Pip
MemberGood ‘eavens, just the titles would scare me away!
I finished reading a Robin Hood book…has anyone noticed that he HAS to be enemies with everyone he comes in contact with? It just seems that way to me.
I also read a bio on J.J. Audobon (I do not like him!) and I’ve started “Trusting God” and “David Balfour”, the sequel to “Kidnapped”.

MemberOh yes, those Medal winners are often soupy! (Tho’ I have read a few ones that lived up to their success.)
I just finished reading Paddington Takes the Air (whatever that means). It was so cute, he was gittin’ fitted fer a fancy suit and the fitter was flustered because…well, he is a bear, after all…and he said “The gentleman’s legs are a bit…ahem…and I really don’t think we can fit him out in time…”
“My legs are a bit “ahem”?” exclaimed Paddington hotly.

MemberWhat did you read on vacation? I remember going to WA D.C. (I love saying that!)and reading “The Sword Bearer” in the car. Outlaws of Sherwood, huh? The battle lasted fer like, 20 pages…but I loved whatizname…um…*bashing head on keyboard*…that guy!…Will Scarlet??? Somebody loik thet.
What are the Bloodstone Chronicles?
Pip
Member*obliges* Alyosha, are are weird! (We’ve made up a new game.)

I love the part in the first book where Aidan tromps down the stairs and “lands with a crash at the bottom”, because that’s exactly what I do!
I liked Robby the best, Aidan second, and The Girl *wonders how to spell her name* was just soupy! I liked Paragor for killing them all.
Pip
MemberBen, my sympathies!!!!!!! My sibs and I went through the test tons of times, trying to git different results, and the time when we put in all cowardly things like run away when confronted with a fight or pressure, we got Frodo.
Good grief, if you had to choose, wouldn’t we all wanna read all the time? *mischevious laughter* Nice that you are Merry, jordan…we can be partners in crime! Probably, Alyosha, the people who made up the test figured that someone like Merry would eat rich foods, and that anyone who loved chocolate over sandwhiches would most likely be that character!
This thread is for gabbing about all things LotR.
I actually didn’t loik the first half of the Fellowship, and I haven’t started the second one yet, cause Tolkien was so beguiled by his own genius (aren’t we all???) that he made his books read more like a history than a fantasy, and I prefer the latter above the former.
Pip
MemberI just didn’t loik it! The writing was bad, the plot soupy and it wasn’t interesting AT ALL!
